Support Alabama´s Nongame Wildlife Program With Tax-Deductible Donations
Preserving nature for generations is a commitment made by people around the globe. Many give their time, and others help support nature projects through donations. Whether you're preparing for tax season or seeking a way to give back, you can make a difference!
When you visit places like the Little River Canyon National Preserve in Alabama and view the wildlife you may be looking at one of the 1,000 species of animals that are protected within the state by the Nongame Wildlife Program. Administered by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Nongame Wildlife Program monitors over 900 of the state "nongame" species. In fact, there are over 1,000 species of animals within the category of Alabama's "nongame" species that are not allowed to be hunted, fished or trapped in order to preserve the species. Many of these wildlife inhabitants like the wood storks and red-cockaded woodpeckers are threatened or endangered due to loss of habitat and low populations. And, the Nongame Wildlife Program is a way to save them.
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is dedicated to promoting wise stewardship, management and enjoyment of Alabama´s natural resources. They accomplish this large and challenging task with five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
Donations are the main source of funding for this program since it does not receive state tax dollars. For residents of Alabama, they can make tax-deductible donations by checking off the box on the state income tax form for the "Alabama Nongame Wildlife Fund." This is a simple way for the residents who care about their environment in their own backyard to make a difference. Residents can donate all or a portion of their state tax refunds, and, these donations are matched with federal funds, so even the smallest donation is valuable to the Alabama Nongame Wildlife Fund.
Those concerned about the preserve of all of nature's creatures who wish to assist or donate to the Alabama´s Nongame Wildlife Program, can contact the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries at 64 North Union St. in Montgomery, Alabama at 334-242-3469.
