Americast Bathtubs by American Standard Company
The Company
With seeds planted in the late 1800s the American Standard Company started as the Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company. It operated under that name until late the early 1900s when it merged with the American Radiator to become American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corporation. As the name was becoming rather unwieldy, the company soon adopted the name American Standard, and this is the name that has become synonymous with quality in bathroom fixtures.
The company´s first big innovation was designing a built-in bathtub, which may not sound like much nowadays, but by replacing the free standing, cast iron tub with a build-in tub valuable floor space was freed up in tiny bathroom spaces worldwide. Next, they made their mark on the industry by perfecting the process for coating cast iron tubs with smooth, hard enamel making them easier to clean than porous cast iron. By mixing quartz sand with their porcelain they created a rock hard, exquisitely smooth surface which was embraced immediately.
Americast – New Material for a Tub
American Standard tubs are now manufactured from acrylic, as well as cast iron, as well as the company´s own Americast material, which was first introduced in 1988. In development for seven years, the Americast material is extremely durable and far more lightweight than its cast iron counterpart. While being structurally equivalent to cast iron, the Americast material only weighs half as much.
The Americast tub is fashioned in three layers: A bathtub cast that is pre-molded, a quality alloy component, and a finished enamel coat. The material is malleable and can be used to form any shape tub. It also has a retentive quality for heat, which helps bath water stay warmer longer. As with any quality product, a limited lifetime warranty comes with all of the Americast tubs.
Americast Designs
The Americast tubs come in three models, which include the Cambridge tub, the Stratford tub and the Princeton Collection. Traditional and elegant, the recessed Princeton collection comes in a variety of colors and finishes. You can find tubs in silver, black, beige and of course white. All of these tubs have lumbar support and feature a beveled headrest. The tubs have a slip resistant finish, and some of the tubs have a luxury ledge, which acts like a shelf on which you can place your bathing accoutrements.
The Stratford tub can be used as a standard tub, or a whirlpool or air bath feature may be added. At five and a half feet long and with a deep soaking feature, this tub is comfortable for almost anyone.
The Cambridge tub is very similar to the Stratford tub, except for two things: It is only five feet long, and it is built to be even tougher than the Stratford tub. So the Cambridge tub is actually perfect for use in commercial applications.
All three of the tub lines are available in a variety of colors and finishes and include the full slip resistant surface.
