To start with, like with any other type of gardening, it is very important to have a good soil base for your grapes to get them growing well. You have to fertilize in order to have a good soil base.
You can fertilize your soil by using store bought chemicals or the ones that is found in every pasture that has cows, goats or horses in it. If you happen to prefer to use the stuff that is bought from the store then you go right ahead. But other grape experts think that fertilizers that have been here since ruminants were created the best.
If in case you use fertilizer from a horse or a cow, you have to make sure that it has set for a short time, this is to prevent it from harming the plants since fertilizer from these animals are too hot. Goat fertilizer is the ideal one to use if you decide to plant immediately. Fertilizer from goat is considered to be cool manure, in other words, it won´t overheat and kill your plants even if it wasn´t let sit. You can place a little bit around the base of where you intend to plant the vine and then some afterwards.
Growing grape plants will need approximately an inch of rain every week for the first year. However, if Mother Nature is not so cooperative, well then you will just have to water your plants. If you are worried about being able to keep the soil moist, then you might want to consider using Aqua Rocks as they will work so well to hold in the moisture.
