Become A Better Darts Player - 3 Top Tips

James Woolley
Darts is an easy game to play, but it's a very difficult game to master. You are essentially throwing arrows at a target that's nearly 8 feet away and the target that you aiming for, whether it's a single, double or treble, is actually very small when you think about it. So it's not easy to become a proficient darts player. However there are three ways you can improve your overall game.

The first is to make sure that your throwing action is as smooth as possible. You shouldn't try and copy other players' throwing actions because everyone throws differently, but instead you should develop your own throwing action that is both comfortable and effortless. As long as you stand firmly on the oche (without leaning over too much), and deliver your darts in a straight line every throw (without moving any other parts of your body), you should be fine.

If you are still unhappy with your action, then you should try getting some advice from a professional darts player. The best way to do this is to attend a darts exhibition in your local area that features one of the professional darts players.

The second way you can improve your game is to simply put in a lot of hard work. In other words practice, practice, practice. If you only play darts for about an hour a week, then you can't realistically expect to see any major improvements in your game. If you're serious about developing your game further, then you really need to be spending at least one or two hours on the practice board every day.

It's need to be quality practice as well. By that I mean that you should be practicing going around the board on singles, doubles and trebles as well as trying different finishes between say 60 and 200. If you just go for treble 20 all the time, you will never become a good all-round player because your doubles and your ability to close out games will not be anywhere near as good as your scoring.

Finally as soon as you reach a decent standard, you need to test yourself against some decent players, and the best way to do that is to join your local pub side. Many players find that their game improves dramatically when they are playing competitively, and so it's something that you should definitely consider.

So basically you want to perfect your throwing action, practice as much as possible and start playing competitive matches if you want to become a top darts player.
