So what are big blinds and small blinds? The big blind and the small blind are the two kinds of poker blinds in Texas holdem. Players are required to place their blinds because without them everyone who is playing on the table will just have to fold in all the games except when they are holding great pocket hands. In addition to that, players on the table will make every effort to win the game since blinds are initial bets.

The player on the left side of the dealer´s button represents the small blind while the player second to the left of the button acts as the big blind. The players who will be acting as the small and big blinds are the people who will be placing a compulsory bets before the cards are dealt. On the first round of betting, the said blinds will be added up to your total investment. So in a situation wherein the pot isn´t raised preflop the player that represents the small blind will only have to put in another half a bet to call.

Likewise, the one who´s acting as the big blind won´t have to add bets or place anything more in the pot. But if in case he wants to, depending on his hand or his game strategy in playing poker he can raise his own blind.

The big blind puts up a bet that is equal to the small limit if he is playing in a fixed limit Texas holdem poker game. The amount that is placed will depend on how much is the game´s limit. So for instance, if the limit is $2/4, the big blind is $2 while the small blind is $1.
