Today's RV Parks and Campgrounds Offer Unexpected Entertainment & Adventure For Guests

Melody Schubert
One might imagine of staying at a RV Park and Campground is just a weekend of hanging around the fire roasting marshmallows after a day of swimming in the lake or hiking. Today, RV Parks and Campgrounds offer many unique and unexpected entertainment and adventure options for their guests. From Qi Gong or Tai Chi classes to seminars on music and politics by professors from Ivy League universities, RV Parks and Campgrounds are providing more than just a place to pop up a tent or park an RV; many are offering exciting getaway options you'd except from a four star resort!

The Palm Creek Golf & RV Resort in Casa Grande, Arizona (www.palmcreekgolf.com) has several recreational activities for guests that include aerobics, Pilates, tai chi, yoga, lawn bowling, softball and volleyball, while those who like to dance can take classes in everything from cabaret dancing to line, square and western dancing. Palm Creek also offers more than a dozen arts and crafts classes, including ceramics, pottery, sewing, oil painting, watercolor painting, silver smithing, stained glass and wood carving. In fact, its winter guests produce so many high quality craft items that the resort now has a monthly craft fair.

At the Voyager RV Resort in Tucson
you'll discover similar classes and activities, as well as Qi Gong, a Chinese exercise class, in addition to a class to help you learn choreographed spirit dance, jazz dance and free form dance. And, last year, Chicago-based Equity LifeStyle Properties, which owns RV resorts throughout the Sunbelt, launched a lecture series at several of its parks in Florida and Arizona that featured professors from Harvard and Yale who talked about a variety of topics, from the music to Mozart to the role of women in politics. These lecture series are so popular that the program has been expanded this year, with topics including "Music And The Brain: Why We Like The Music We Like," by Professor Craig Wright of Yale University; "FDR And The Path To World War II," by Professor Richard Pios of Columbia University, and seminars on Gershwin´s most popular songs by Professor Orin Grossman of Fairfield University.

Head West to California, and you'll find Orangeland RV Park in Anaheim, that has more than 100 citrus trees that guests are able to pick from during season. When we think of California we recall the classic and beautifully painted citrus packing labels, and Orangeland, which dates back to the early 1900s, used these same labels. The bright pictures capture Southern California´s sunny winter weather and snow capped mountains capture a era of leisure and relaxation. This is what you will discover at Orangeland RV Park that has a heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, exercise room and other amenities that make the park a popular winter destination.

Traveling South to Florida then consider a stop over at the Great Outdoors RV Resort in Titusville. Here, winter guests enjoy daily activities, including Zumba, kickboxing, hi-low dance aerobics, pilates, total body toning, yoga and group meditation as well as classes in calligraphy, photography, oil painting, and rubber stamping. The park also has formed clubs for virtually every type of interest, from knitting to kayaking to motorcycling.

It makes perfect business sense for Campgrounds and RV Parks to offer more for guests. Today's traveler's not only include Veterans and Seniors, there are more couples and families taking to the roads in auto's and RV's. We're all feelings the effects of the economy and looking for ways to adapted to changing times. Offering guests at Campgrounds or RV Parks more recreation, sports, health and overall fitness programs, as well as creative and performing arts is going to keep them coming back in the future!
