Has Hugo Chavez Gone To Far
Latinos have a different prospective on politics than most Americans. For years politics was dominated by the strongest leaders or the military, Latinos have become accustomed to a lack of political influence in their governments. Most Latinos are indigenous to their countries, traditionally satisfying their daily needs was adequate, and any move up the economic ladder was a welcomed improvement assumingly granted by the government and the aristocracy. Anglos come from more affluent backgrounds and demand more of their political leaders.
As more and more of Chavez social reforms encroach into the average Venezuelans property rights and their economic welfare what they thought they wanted wasn’t what they got are an entirely different person. Hugo Chavez is out to mirror the image he has of his friend Fidel Castro as a world leader. He doesn’t understand the copy is never as good as the original.
Venezuela has been on the cutting edge of democracy for many years. In 2004 a recall referendum was defeated by Chavez in a questionable special election. In the coming December elections it’s doubtful the opposition will be that easley trampled. They’re prepared for any and all illegalities the Chavez people may try.
Traditionally the Venezuelan Army has never turned on the people and military force would be the only way Chavez could maintain his power. President Chavez has abused his office, he’s been passing out Venezuela’s cash like he were a member of the American Congress. The Venezuelan Aristocracy still wield the majority of the power in the country, they don’t mind his ripping off the poor but now he’s getting dangerously close to their fortunes and that will not stand.
Unlike Fidel Castro Hugo Chavez doesn’t have an America in close proximity he can dump his dissidents off on? He has Columbia to the North and Brazil to the South neither of which would tolerate an influx of political dissidents.
Chavez will find he has overstepped his authority as president and may well face charges for his actions after Decembers. Or as is the custom with deposed leaders ha may be allowed to leave the country with his ill-gotten millions and live the life of a country gentleman in Spain or some other dictator friendly country. This is assuming he’s defeated in December elections.
Chaves has given the world a view of Venezuela that’s very much undeserved and false, as a whole Venezuelans are the salt of the earth. They’re beginning to realize just how much damage Chavez has done to Venezuela’s image abroad. He has made them look foolish in the eyes of the world. The people of Venezuela know they must repair the damage before it’s too late and that means ridding themselves of Hugo Chavez.
The new hope on the horizon is Governor of the state of Zulia Mr. Rosalies. He claims to be a Social Democrat politically to the right of Hugo Chavez that should satisfy to some degree most of the political parties on the country.
