The Choice. Fight or Retreat

Dale Netherton
When you step into the voting booth in November you will be asked to vote for a candidate from a party that either wants to face terrorism and fight back or a candidate from a party that is predominately willing to withdraw from the battlefield thereby encouraging the enemy to attack from newly established strongholds. Think of it this way. If there was a serial killer on the loose in your neighborhood, would you prefer to hide in the closet and hope he didn’t show up or would you prefer the police conducted an active search , sought him out and immobilized him? This on a larger scale is the choice you will be exercising in the voting booth this November.

It is true the Republicans have been a big disappointment led by George Bush regarding growing government, increased spending ,creating an unfathomable debt and letting scandals run rampant before addressing them. But none of these factors will be a shadow of a problem compared to terrorists blossoming throughout the globe and constantly plotting to invade and destroy our way of life. The vicious serial killers described as terrorists have only one goal in their lives and that is to spread the influence ( read that intimidation ) of Islam and destroy those opposed to their goal. Letting these barbarians thrive and conquer is not in our national or personal interest. Therefore since all we have that will confront these killers are primarily Republicans, the choice in the ballot box in undeniable. Just as the Jews in Israel faltered when they voted for the timid policies of their current prime minister, those who have hopes that the Party of retreat and defeat in America will display strength are living under self delusion.

We have seen time and time again the failure of the policy of appeasement and retreat in the face of aggression so there is no reason to think it will ever work. It is dangerous, ineffective and futile. Even a poorly conducted war is far superior than a policy of retreat, withdrawal and appeasement. Vietnam was a winnable war that we chose not to complete and we have only a legacy of regret to remember. Korea was a war that President Truman called a “police action” and we let a Chinese dictator bluff us into a stale mate that gave us a current crisis with the residual North Korean war monger. Remember Truman was a Democrat and Johnson was a Democrat. We won the Second World War in spite of the socialist FDR who was such a poor judge of character he built an alliance with Stalin and allowed the Soviets to expand and threaten a nuclear confrontation. President Kennedy, also a Democrat, allowed a build up in Communist Cuba and only when the danger was so obvious that he had to confront the Soviets did he act decisively. During the Republican presidency of Ronald Reagan in which he named the country of Russia as an evil empire ( much to the chagrin of the Democrats ) this utopian “experiment” crashed and burned. Had Ronald Reagan embraced the Soviets and appeased “ world opinion” the Berlin Wall would still stand and the people that are now free would be still under the thumb of the Soviet butchers.

For this reason and no other should the Republicans retain their political power. They have spent as much or more than the Democrats. They have managed to prove they can be just as scandalous as the Democrats. They have instituted and embraced capital destroying policies, increased multitudes of taxes and regulations and failed to live up to their promise of smaller government. But to date they have kept the homeland safe. Why would we want to take a chance on a policy of appeasement and retreat as vocalized by the Democratic leaders? The function of government is to protect us and this seems to be a message the Democrats cannot assimilate or convey. They can attack a President from the other side of the aisle but they cannot attack genuine threats to our well being. For this act of cowardice they deserve only rejection. The Democratic Party is dead and so will we be if we follow the policies they have advocated and implemented. They cannot achieve political victory because victory over adversaries ends up being a compromise of criticism and vague promises of social justice. They do not know how to win a war, only how to start a fight. And those who support their policy of national defense must realize you can only bribe and cajole until the demands become overbearing and destructive. Then after weakening your position you must fight a far greater war and face the possibility of a far greater defeat. Everyone in history who did not succumb to national defeat realized that warfare does not include partial surrender. The victor would only settle for complete and total victory or face emboldened skirmishers and attempted coups.

Think long and hard before considering government handouts and assurances of safety will come from a party that puts national safety on the second rung of the ladder of survival. A sure win for them would be a critique of fighting a limited war but their history doesn’t allow that to gain any credibility pursuing this approach. We have only the choice to stand and fight, retreat or attack. The Republicans choose to stand and fight. The Democrats choose to support retreat. The nation awaits the party that will attack and conquer this scourge of death loving fanatics blinded by faith and nihilism. In the meantime when you vote ,,,stand and fight.
