Montana Poker Tournaments - Texas Holdem Aces Up

Keith R Gilley

Texas holdem aces up means that you are holding two pairs and one of which is a pair of aces. An example of aces up in Texas holdem is when you are holding an ace and a 9. The community cards are composed of A-9-7-6-4. Now you are aces up with a pair of aces and a pair of nines.

The ace has the highest rank value but can also function as the lowest in case of a straight combination with five as the highest and ace is the lowest. A stands for Aces in Texas holdem and a pair of aces is the most powerful hand. Unfortunately, its effectiveness is so easy to spot that if it isn´t played properly, you won´t make the best out of the perfect situation. It is also called Pocket Rockets or American Airlines. It is the most desired starting hand in the game. But you can´t expect to see it too often.

Maintain neutral expression if you are playing pocket aces. Retain your poker face after reading your cards. Look at your chips, or even think about some other things that you can remember. This way no one will guess you have pocket rockets (A-A).

In Texas holdem there are still five more community cards to come. Your pocket Aces will win about 80% of the time when you are heads up with just one player but will only win about 35% against ten players. And getting another pair after the community cards are shown makes it aces up.

It is wise to play the right bet even if you are holding an ace. If someone raised before you, you might just want to call, may it be you are the small or the big blind. If you are holding a pocket aces, you can play from any position. However, it´s not a good idea to be playing single ace from any position.
