A deck of playing cards consist of 52 cards and are divided into four suits. The suits are the hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds. Each suit has thirteen ranks and all of them are of equal value, no suit is ranked higher than the other suit. A hand that is of the same suit is called Texas holdem suited.

The ace has the highest value and the two has the lowest value. The ace can also be used as a low card or a one, in case of straights like A2345. A poker hand consists of five playing cards. Poker hands fall into one of several categories, such as flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair and a few more others. The player who has the higher category wins. If two players have hands in the same category, the tie is broken usually by who has higher cards.

Getting two suited cards as a starting hand is fairly common. The probability of being dealt two suited cards is 23.58% which means those who like to play ASAP will have plenty of chances to enter the pot. Completing your flush is however a lot more difficult.

However the most common mistakes that player make in a poker game is playing any suited from any position. Even cards of low value as long it is of the same suit. They will bet for the hand thinking that they will end up making a flush. This is not always true. The truth is that in Texas holdem you cannot play any two suited cards from any position if you expect to be a consistent winner. It is important that you consider the odds that you will get before doing anything.

As with suited connectors like T9 spades and 98 hearts, you must not always play them. Suited connectors are only marginal hands in Texas holdem. They should be played only under the right conditions.
