Montana Poker Tournaments - Bad Beat in Texas Holdem

Andre E Austin

Bad beat in Texas holdem happens when you have a strong poker hand but lose the pot. It is a situation when you thought all along that you are going to win because you make the best poker hand but then there is another player that is holding a much better hand. You feel very confident with your hand, so you kept on raising and raising, only to find out that another player is holding a much better hand. A bad beat indeed.

An example of this situation is; you had pocket Kings and the flop was King Spades, Jack hearts and 8 clubs. Now you would consider yourself to be in a very strong position with your triple aces at this point. You would probably raise and get called, so you think that this would be your chance to win.

When the turn came out, it is a 2 diamonds and you still consider this favorable to you. Your opponent cannot have a straight or flush draw so surely you are winning. The river came out to be eight hearts which is almost perfect on your part. If someone has an 8 perhaps they think that they are winning. But you´ll top them with your full house, KKK88. They call raise and you re-raise. And they call again, so you go all in thinking that you´ll win. You get called.

You are very confident and you showed your hand and ready to take the big pot. Your opponent showed a pair of 8´s. What a surprise your opponent actually made a four of a kind of eight. You thought your aces are winning but on this occasion his pair of 8´s was the winner.

How you handle a bad beat in Texas holdem matters a lot. Never allow the feeling of being beaten get into you because it´ll affect you even more in your other games. Acceptance is rather important in these situations.
