Classic Championship Wrestling Event Wrap-up 10.3.06

Fall quickly turned to indian summer as the fans filed into the CCW Arena, ready to rock as not only was one finalist for the CCW Heavyweight Title Tournament going to be determined, in the highly anticipated Dynamite Derrick/Kliff Hanger match, but a preview would be provided of the other Semi Final match, as Johnny Spade and The Prophet would be on opposing sides of a big tag team main event. The fans liked the changes to the arena, as the company prepares to tape its pilot for their upcoming TV debut. The atmosphere is usually lively at the arena, especially with the packed houses CCW has been drawing for months now, and tonight was no exception as speculation continues to fly over who will win the CCW Championship.

In-ring action kicked off this week with Rocco Andretti flying solo against the always formidable Jebidiah Blackhawk. Apparently, Tim the Baker has been doing some serious wheeling and dealing, as the ever-present one found himself back in Andretti's corner. Blackhawk entered to his usual dose of respect from the CCW fans, which may have angered Rocco, who looked to take a big lead early.

The match opened with Blackhawk demonstrating his size and power advantage on the slugger from Brooklyn. Rocco would try to get into Blackhawk's head by trying to pull one over on Senior Official Darrell Mays, and with the assistance of Tim the Baker, mounted a brief flurry of offense, but in the end, Blackhawk was simply too much, scoring the pin in a quick and impressive match.

The first tag team match of the evening promising another bruising encounter between The Regulator and the team of K-Lo and Guido Andretti, accompanied, of course, by Ricky Stonewall. K-Lo and Guido came into the match acting like the champions they thought they should already be. Confidence goes a long way, and with the roll this team's been on, the three of them looked as though they were ready to fight to the moon and back for a warm-up. Regulator then entered, and after making his feelings clear about his streak of bad luck lately, he introduced his new partner for the evening, Randy Royal. The cagey grappler from Atlanta was more than ready to pick up half of Regulator's opposition against the hottest tag team in CCW at present.

Regulator started out with K-Lo, immediately pouring on the damage before tagging in Royal. In a matter of seconds, K-Lo and Guido was now on the floor, trying to regroup. This would lead to a comical moment in which Ricky Stonewall would find himself in his team's corner facing Regulator! While referee Darrell Mays would allow it, the encounter was all Regulator, as an irish whip and back elbow sent Stonewall back to ringside. However, Stonewall's team capitalized, battering the big man and using the numbers game to inflict damage at will as Royal languished in the corner, desperate to tag in. This was not necessarily a good thing, as once Royal tagged in, he gave K-Lo and Guido a knowing smile before turning on his partner! After disposing of The Regulator, K-Lo announced that the team was from that moment on known as The Brute Squad, a fitting name given their choice of tactics. Leaving the CCW Arena with a no contest may have been the trade-off for the evening, but The Brute Squad and Ricky Stonewall made another big statement tonight.

The mid-card was highlighted by Apollo versus Jack Black. Apollo stalked the ring in his usual manner before giving the fans their customary salute. Then, the outspoken HNIC member took a minute to tell the crowd what he thought of them of being back in Portland (never a flattering statement on either count). Of course, most men stepping into the ring against the massive Jack Black would wind up being less than thrilled, I imagine, but given the history between these two men's respective tag teams, this promised to be another brawling chapter in the long-running feud. To be honest with you here, I though I would have more to write here. Apollo, looking for a big win to start building some momentum, used a pair of brass, I, uh, mean...black knucks to knock Black out and score what has to be the fastest win ever over The Fat N The Furious member. This controversial finish will not go unforgiven, to be sure, and based on what we have witnessed in the past from these two teams, the retribution will definitely be worth securing a ticket for.

The first Semi Final CCW Heavyweight Title tournament match kicked off with "The Old School Player" Dynamite Derrick strutting into the CCW Arena looking to make the move to the finals by getting past Kliff Hanger. This highly anticipated match was a flat-out brawl from the opening bell, with both men coming out swinging, as tension between the two men rose on the road to this showdown. Finally gaining a bit of control, Derrick went on the attack, using pure smash mouth tactics to punish "The Black Redneck." Always capable of some aerial action, Derrick may have wasted a second too many, as he missed a top rope elbow that had some hangtime to it, allowing Kliff to make his most significant offense on the evening. In the end, though, chance favors the prepared mind, as Derrick smartly cinched the ropes during a pin reversal to not only steal the win, but seal his spot in the inaugural CCW Heavyweight Title match. This was a crushing loss for Kliff Hanger, although expect him to not only remain a top contender as the championship is decided, but expect him to be planning his revenge on Dynamite Derrick soon, and I mean directly!

Elmore Fudd, along with the always-dangerous Mrs. Fudd, hit the ring looking to shine in a big main-event showdown teaming him with The Prophet against Matt Maverick and "Smooth" Johnny Spade (accompanied once again by the gorgeous Miss Holly Wood), allowing the fans a glimpse of the Semi Final match Space and Prophet will have to determine Dynamite Derrick's opponent in the CCW Heavyweight Title finals.

Spade and Fudd would start out in a quick-paced match featuring smart tag team wrestling on both sides of the ring. Prophet was most assuredly looking to soften up Spade, took the lead after entering the ring and from there, it was all Prophet and Fudd. Matt Maverick managed to make it into the match, only to be swept away by the momentum the opposition had built. Maverick, a solid tag team wrestler who has been looking to make a singles name for himself in Classic Championship Wrestling, fell victim to the numbers game quickly, as Mrs. Fudd never misses a chance to involve herself in the action. All Johnny Spade and Miss Holly Wood could do was watch helpless from the corner. Once Maverick was able to make the tag, Spade's offensive explosion soon triggered a break-down in the match. In the confusion, Spade would gain the pin with an inside cradle on Fudd, only to fall prey to an attack by The Prophet, angry by the loss but quickly thinking of a moral victory. On the outside, Miss Holly Wood and Mrs. Fudd would collide in a catfight, although Elmore was there to subdue Miss Holly Wood and help paint a bleak portrait for the winning team. Dynamite Derrick and The Brute Squad followed, helping Prophet lay a vicious beatdown on Spade and Maverick, who was layed out at ringside, and no word was available on his condition following the event.

Miss Holly Wood would break free and try to save Spade from Derrick by pulling Derrick down from the top rope, but The Prophet wasn't done with Spade yet, either, and he put an end to the interference of the petite blond. CCW Officials should contemplate some sort of fine or disciplinary action for The Prophet's actions on this one.

As has become fashion in recent weeks, the night ended with controversy abounding form every corner of the CCW Arena. While Dynamite Derrick is now just a three-count away from backing up his boasting to the fans, the bigger question mark is in what shape will Johnny Spade be to face The Prophet, his toughest test yet on the road to the finals and better yet, another shot at Derrick, and with gold on the line. Throw in The Fat N The Furious versus HNIC feud and the emergence of The Brute Squad, and the trip into winter may be lots of things, but it won't be without excitement.
