Each player is dealt two cards called the hole cards. There are four rounds of betting in each game. After the first round of betting the three community cards are dealt (flop). Then the second round of betting ensues. The fourth and the fifth community cards are dealt (the turn and the river). After the final round of betting, the remaining players will compare their poker hand and determine the winner during the showdown.

How do we determine the winner of the pot? The winner is determined by means of comparing who has the best poker hand. An official list for the best hand ranking is being referred to in determining the winner.

The best poker hand that rank first is the royal flush; AKQJT with the same suit. The second is the straight flush; any straight with all five cards of the same suit. The third one is four of a kind; any four cards of the same rank. If two players share the same four of a kind, the bigger fifth card (known as the kicker) decides who wins the pot. The fourth one is full house; any three cards of the same rank together with any two cards of the same rank (AAAKK).

The fifth one is the flush; any five cards of the same suit. The highest card of the five determines the rank of the flush. AJ896 of hearts is an Ace-high flush, which is the highest possible. Now you have an idea how the winner is determined in the game of poker. If in case two or more players make the same hand, therefore the pot is split.
