PODS assists multiple Bakersfield charities to help further cause, missions

(BAKERSFIELD, CALIF.) -- Good things do not only come in small packages. Sometimes, good things come in large, white, sturdy storage containers emblazoned with the four red letters, in this case, PODS.

PODS, a well-known national moving and storage company, is considered an expert in more than just the traditional sense when it comes to moving America. Bright red and white PODS containers are frequently seen at charitable organizations and disaster sites throughout the United States.

Over the past year, several non-profit organizations and city agencies throughout Bakersfield have used PODS containers to raise funds and further their missions.

"We take pride in our community and are happy to support agencies that make life better for the people of Bakersfield by donating PODS containers to their cause," said Garrett Well, facility manager of the Bakersfield PODS franchise.

Well was instrumental in assisting a variety of organizations, including Toys for Tots, Bakersfield Boys & Girls Club, Bakersfield Association of Retarded Citizens (BARC) and the Bakersfield Police Department with individual storage needs.

"PODS storage containers are so versatile that each agency used their donated container for a completely different purpose," Well said.

In December 2009, BARC raised funds and spread holiday cheer when it created a spectacular holiday light display and Santa photo center, transforming the PODS container into Santa´s workshop to process and package photographs. Toys for Tots stored donations and the Bakersfield Boys & Girls Club used PODS as makeshift flower and gift shops for fundraisers.

At Famoso Raceway, the Bakersfield Police Department set up PODS containers near the drag strip to store emergency supplies to use in the event of a racing accident, which Wells said can actually help save a life.
