Pope Gives In To Muslim Intimidation, Chancellor Merkel Stands Strong

Robert Paul Reyes
These days, free-speech loving Westerners walk on eggs around Muslim extremists (oxymoron?). The princess who couldn’t sleep because there was a pea beneath her mattress may have had tender sensibilities, but nothing compared to Muslims. They take umbrage at the slightest perceived slight, and their wounded sensibilities usually results in violence.

Pope Benedict XVI quoted an obscure emperor who described changes brought about by the Prophet Muhammad as “evil and inhuman,” particularly “his command to spread by the sword the faith”. From the violent reaction by thousands of Muslims all over the world, you would have thought that the Pope has announced a crusade to rid East Jerusalem of Muslims.

Since then the Pope has bent over backwards, apologizing time and time again. The Holy Father has no need to apologize, he was merely making the point that violence should never be used as a means to spreading religion.

The medieval emperor was right, there is a connection between Islam and violence that can’t be denied. And as an American it is my right, and indeed my duty, to point out the obvious: The history of Islam is written in blood. It’s not Episcopalians or Buddhists perpetrating horrendous acts of terrorism all over the world, it’s Muslims.

The Pope has shown himself to be a coward, he has given in to intimidation by the Islamists. German Chancellor Angela Merkel may not be infallible, but she has more cojones than the Pontiff.

President Bush has also shown a lack of courage, frequently speaking of a generic “war on terrorism.” We are not engaged in a “war on terrorism”, we are in a life and death battle with Muslims who use terrorism to intimidate the world into converting to Islam.

From Expatica.com:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel criticized Wednesday a Berlin opera house for canceling a provocative production in which the hero is shown laughing at the severed heads of the Prophet Mohammed and Jesus Christ.

Deutsche Oper Berlin had announced Monday it was dropping the opera, Idomeneo, for fear the theatre would be attacked by outraged Muslims. But Merkel assailed that decision as “self-censorship.”

We should watch out that we don’t keep retreating for fear of radicals willing to employ violence,’ she told a newspaper, the Neue Presse published in the northern city of Hanover. “Self-censorship based on fear is insupportable.’”

I applaud Chancellor Merkel for her courage in standing up to the Islamists, I hope more leaders here at home and throughout the world follow her example.
