Classic Championship Wrestling - Event Wrap-up 9.26.06

Thomas Keister
Classic Championship Wrestling kicked off Fall 2006 with some big plans in the works, all of which leads to the best in professional wrestling action each and every week to Louisville, Kentucky. The fans have become accustomed to this, and the capacity crowd at 34th and Northwestern Parkway by 7:25 pm was nothing new.

The Regulator opened the show by voicing his disgust at the events of the last two weeks, assuring the crowd that Tim the Baker would NOT be in his corner tonight. Demanding a six-man tag team match, Regulator looked to gain a measure of revenge for the unfinished business Ricky Stonewall, K-Lo, and Guido Andretti have left in his path. Teaming with the big man from Detroit was Jebidiah Blackhawk and Jason X, a newcomer on the scene in CCW. Together, the three looked to take the fight to "The Illustrious" K-Lo & Guido Andretti, tonight teaming with the always dangerous Elmore Fudd. Talk about a donnybrook in the waiting- Senior Official Darrell Mays not only had to maintain control over six men in what promised to be a rowdy contest, but the presence of Ricky Stonewall AND Mrs. Elma Fudd!

Andretti, K-Lo, and Fudd went to their collective bag of tricks early, using the constant distraction of Darrell Mays to their advantage, punishing Jason X and establishing firm control of the match. Fudd's brawling style made him a perfect fit with K-Lo and Guido, who may arguably be CCW's hottest tag team at the moment.

Struggling to escape to his corner, Jason X repeatedly found himself at the mercy of the numbers game the opposition had brought along. While Regulator took a couple of occasions to try and get his hands on Ricky Stonewall, the rest of his team's focus was on the newcomer, who appeared to be running on fumes as Blackhawk whipped the fans into a frenzy, trying to ignite a rally. Tagged in finally, Blackhawk was on fire, battling all three men simultaneously until all hell broke loose! In the confusion, Mays was assaulted, leaving him no other alternative but to throw the match out as a no-contest. K-Lo and Guido weren't quite ready to go, as they continued the attack, laying out Jason X in the middle of the ring as they called it a night.

CCW Commissioner Chris Alexander then came to ringside, calling out Biff Wellington III and Miss Hollywood, whose reputations preceded as evidenced by the response from the sold-out house. Alexander then put the question that was left on everybody's mind following last week's show - why did Miss Hollywood help save "Smooth" Johnny Spade from Dynamite Derrick's chair attack? BW3 admitted he had sent her out last week to stop Derrick's attempt, and that while his immediate chance at the CCW Heavyweight Championship was gone, he was going to make certain the one man he felt was left who could beat Derrick - Johnny Spade, was going to get that chance fair and square. And with that, it was Johnny Spade into the ring, thanking BW3 and Miss Hollywood for their support and guaranteeing justice for Wellington when he gets his hands on Derrick, whenever that may be.

No sooner had than Wellington, Miss Hollywood, and Spade departed, "The Old School Player" was on the scene. Dynamite Derrick was looking to make a statement of his own, and he didn't seem too interested in Alexander's insistence that Derrick keep his head in the game, given the "preview" of his Semi Final opponent, Kliff Hanger, in a tag team match later in the evening. Not content with simply watching from the monitors in the back, "The Black Redneck" emerged, calling out his former friend for his behavior over the past several weeks, and reinforcing the Commissioner's opinion on who Derrick should be keeping an eye on. While they briefly went nose-to-nose in the ring, Derrick decided discretion was the better part of valor, heading to the back to plot out a plan of action for his tag match later in the evening.

The second match of the evening featured another Classic Championship Wrestling newcomer, J-Mo, who has apparently taken on Tim the Baker in an advisory role. An adviser was not going to be enough, however, as J-Mo found himself standing across the ring from Vito Andretti of The Fat N The Furious.

Vito seemed to be two things as the bell rang for the contest, angry and determined- not the combination J-Mo was hoping for. Clearly not in the mood for small talk, Andretti went for maximum impact with every move. Showing good presence of mind, J-Mo then gained the advantage after goading Vito to chase him around the ring. Tim the Baker, who has been under fire for his success rate as of late, nearly paid off immediate dividends, handing off a chain to J-Mo, who then cold-cocked Vito for the three count. Jack Black would storm the ring in protest, and upon further investigation, Senior Official Darrell Mays, already low on tolerance after the six man tag, overturned his decision and ordered the match re-started. A brief exchange of punches led to a big swinging neckbreaker by Andretti to score the pinfall and dodge a major upset at the hands of the newcomer.

In the second tag team match of the evening, Apollo of the HNIC would team up with Dynamite Derrick to meet Matt Maverick and Kliff Hanger. As witnessed earlier, this match was bound to feature a Semi Final match preview between "The Old School Player" and "The Black Redneck."

The tension was immediate before the opening bell, and after some stalling tactics by Derrick and Apollo, Kliff Hanger would get his wish early, as he would start the match with Derrick, battering him from pillar to post and back again, wrestling as though the CCW Title itself was on the line! Matt Maverick and Kliff Hanger showed good chemistry teaming together, making quick, fluid tags and cutting the ring in half, forcing Derrick to watch as Apollo took the brunt of the assault.

Mounting some offense, it was then Derrick and Apollo's turn to exact revenge, only now it was Matt Maverick on the receiving end. Kliff was absolutely chomping at the bit to make it back into the ring, and once that became a reality, it was all Kliff Hanger as he lit up Derrick with a variety of chops and punches. A Tricycle kick by Kliff looked to have Dynamite Derrick down for a 15 count, unfortunately, Darrell Mays was on the floor trying to separate Apollo and Matt Maverick. This bit of bad timing provided the perfect distraction for Derrick, who scored a low blow on Kliff, following it up with a Supa Playa Kick to Matt Maverick, allowing Apollo to gain the pin. While the victory may have landed on Derrick's side of the fence this week, you know the unfinished business between Kliff Hanger and himself will be all The Black Redneck will be able to think about until next Tuesday night.

Live action resumed with the third Quarter Final match of the CCW Heavyweight title tournament, as The Prophet was on a war ride, accompanied once again by the beautiful and devious JesseBell, and the only place Prophet planned on ending the ride had the CCW Heavyweight championship waiting for him. Jack Black, his Quarter Final opponent, brought the crowd to their feet with a rowdy standing ovation for the Portland favorite on his home turf.

The match started out slowly, as each man tried to set their own pace. Prophet, one of the few stars in CCW who can look Black directly in the eye, tried unsuccessfully to match power with The Big Man, reverting to kicks and more underhanded tactics to try and build a big momentum in the early goings. JesseBell didn't exactly endear herself to Senior Official Darrell Mays, who had already had a hell of a night, as he warned her about her attempted interference. Black, all business with the CCW title down the road, tried to solve the problem his way until Mays ejected her to the locker room, and for more of her own good than she may have realized.

Prophet would mount his best offense of the night shortly thereafter, only to fall victim to a huge recovery by the FNF member. Pouring it on, Prophet showed his veteran roots by taking the match to the ground, as Jack Black is infinitely more dangerous when he's on his feet. As the match continued, he would employ submission holds and high impact moves to draw within a mere second from winning the match on more than one occasion.

At this point in the match, Darrell Mays' life would once again get complicated. During an exchange, he was knocked to the canvas, unconscious. Watching from the back, JesseBell returned to the ring, leaving everyone in disbelief as she jumped in the ring to confront Jack Black! It looked like a chihuahua attacking a Volkswagen as she gave him a piece of her mind before hauling off and slapping Black across the face! As she would find out, that is all the invitation Black needed, as he hoisted and then powerslammed the terrified valet! I'm sure she didn't notice the crowd loving it. Or, uh...until she read this. Prophet would be waiting for Black, however, and moments later hit the Tomahawk Drop to gain a hard-fought trip to the Semi Finals. I couldn't obtain any word on JesseBell's condition following the show, but I hope to update you further next week. With The Prophet now just one win away from the CCW Championship match, I'm sure she'll manage to recover.

The main event for the evening featured the final Ouarter Final match, as "Smooth" Johnny Spade met up with "Dirty" Dick Dalton. Dalton, in the Quarter Finals after a big first round win over Vito Andretti, looked unimpressed with Spade as he made his way to the ring. Whether or not he knew something the rest of us didn't is open to conjecture. Spade, accompanied by Miss Hollywood, knew a win tonight CONTINUE

Dalton tried to start the match off with a high rate of steam, knowing the difficulties one faces climbing into the ring against an opponent with as much momentum coming into the match as Johnny Spade. Dalton's playbook held no surprises for Spade, as he didn't buy the moniker "Dirty" during an online special. Mixing it up with chops, wicked backbreakers, and sleeper-type holds, Dalton was definitely in the market for another "Done Deal."

However, where passion and intensity collide, sometimes foreheads are present, too, and both men found themselves struggling to regain their footing in the midsts of a ten count. Dynamite Derrick, as expected, tried to take advantage of the situation, dashing out to hit the Supa Playa Kick on Spade, as Miss Hollywood desperately tried to point Darrell Mays in the right direction. While Dalton would capitalize, it was just another near-fall, as Spade rebounded from the interference, eventually hitting the Spadeton in spite of Dalton and Derrick's agenda to round out the Semi Final field, with a matchup against The Prophet on the horizon.

With only three matches left until a CCW Heavyweight Champion is crowned, the speculation is going to run wild until next Tuesday, will Derrick pull it off after all? Will Kliff Hanger continue to shine (and prove me right)? Will Spade finally get his hands on Derrick in another match, this time with a heavyweight title on the line, or will The Prophet storm into the finals and power his way to the championship? Your guess may be as good as mine, but then again, that won't exactly stop the guessing, will it?

I caught up with CCW Owner Marcus and Commissioner Chris Alexander before the show, and in the middle of the usual press for information, they did have big news. Classic Championship Wrestling is coming soon to television! A deal has been signed with a local channel in Louisville, and both men assured me big changes are in store across the board as CCW prepares to tape a pilot. Definitely more word on this as it becomes available, folks.

Classic Championship Wrestling holds live events every Tuesday night at the CCW Arena, 3327 Northwestern Parkway in Louisville, Kentucky. Doors open at 7:00pm, with a bell time of 7:30. General admission is $5, or $3, with a coupon available on the CCW website.
