FORMER FIRST LADY HEARS THE RANDY KAZANDY TIME SONG IN DALLAS

(Dallas, Texas) Author Rhonda Fischer was sponsored by Jobson Optical to attended the Kids Vision Fest in Dallas to read her story, Randy Kazandy, Where Are Your Glasses? Former first lady Laura Bush was also at the event and watched as Rhonda used her musical talents with the children. During the media event, Laura Bush was joined by Dallas ISD Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa; Dallas County District Judge Cheryl Shannon; Laura Leppert, wife of Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, and Laurie Evans, director of Dallas Public Libraries, to address the importance of good vision care for children.

Vision care at this event was provided by 14 eye doctors that represented a variety of organizations, including the Houston College of Optometry who works closely with the H.I.S. BridgeBuilders organization.


This event was free and open to the general public, Kids Vision Fest provided free vision screenings to all children. Free eye exams and new glasses – featuring the latest styles in eyeglass frames provided by Nouveau Eyewear and Safilo Group– were offered to children ages 4 to 12 who were unable to afford vision care and qualify for other programs such as Medicaid

One thousand kids were checked and 400 pairs of eye glasses were given out at the event. Also 30 children were diagnosed with crossed eyes and 17 are scheduled for surgery.

More than 200 volunteers from a variety of businesses and organizations were on hand to assist with registration, screening and the various activities at the event.
