Software That TKO's Muhammad Ali
Recently, in an attempt to find where MyEclipse stands in the virtual realm against some competitors, I saw a fun statistic that placed MyEclipse at an interesting milestone. The comparison I ran ranked the number of searches currently being done on Google with seven different product search phrases (including “MyEclipse”) tested against a popular random search phrase/personality as a control – “Muhammad Ali.”
The results for search volume among these phrases may surprise you:
1.“MyEclipse”
2.“Muhammad Ali”
3.“BEA Weblogic”
4.“IBM Rational”
5.“IntelliJ IDEA”
6.“Borland JBuilder”
7.“Java Studio Enterprise”
8.“Exadel Studio”
(insert your favorite MyEclipse-esque “sting like a bee” tagline here)
Of course it's already been mentioned that Google Trends is to be used as a guide, not as an exact science. But internally at Genuitec, we're pleased to see that our aspirations of “greatness” allow us to be above par with such a popular figure as far as search volume goes, and that the popularity of our searches has increased exponentially over time.
Most importantly, tongue-in-cheek rhetoric aside, we're excited to see how our brand's search volume has grown from humble beginnings to be able to now outperform some other industry leaders in certain key phrases. As social interaction on the web grows, I'm anticipating further growth for MyEclipse in the virtual realm, and that means only good things for the MyEclipse community.
We're in no way associated with Muhammad Ali other than for this unorthodox but enlightening study, but it sure would be fun to think so.
