When it comes to shopping for a romantic gift, though well intentioned, most men are doomed for failure. Maybe it’s because we think on the wrong side of our brains, or it could be that we are from Mars has something to do with it. It, being the inability to perform a simple task such as purchasing an appropriately romantic gift for anniversaries, birthdays etc

Men have a reputation for being procrastinators when it comes to gift shopping. I would argue though that it is not so much procrastination as it is fear. Yes fear, a deep seeded fear of experiencing yet another gift shopping experience that 4 out of 5 times will end in failure.

Another contributing factor could be the way that most men instinctively shop whether it is online or in a bricks and mortar store. Long before most men pull into the parking lot of a store, they know what they’re after or have at least a general idea of what they’re going to purchase. As soon as a man steps out of the car, an internal clock starts to tic, in his mind he is on a mission, no time to waste, just locate the perfect romantic present and get out of there with his manhood intact.

Although shopping online can be much easier for a man shopping for romantic gifts, there are two factors that can doom this method also,

1. Procrastination, last minute shopping and shipping times can make getting a gift on time impossible.

2. Online or off, it does not matter, if you’re clueless as to what constitutes a romantic gift.

There is hope though, men are capable of buying romantic gifts if someone shows us what is romantic and why. Once armed with this valuable intelligence, then it’s just a matter of locating the target and completing our mission. Now it would be impossible to cover all of the complexities of what makes for a romantic gift in the limited space of this article. But we can cover a few of the basics the will dramatically increase your odds of success.

1. You can show your love on most occasions without having to give an outrageously expensive gift; all you need to do is just show that you put a little thought into it. This is a prerequisite for romantic gifts; they must show that you put at least a moderate amount of thought into matching the gift with the recipient’s needs, wants, desires or personality.

2. Symbolic gifts are romantic when presented correctly. Almost everyone is aware that one red rose in full bloom means “I Love You”, but there are so many more like, red and white roses together in a bouquet mean unity. Two roses with the stems taped together into one stem are symbolic of an engagement. Just do a little research and find something appropriate for your occasion, then when presenting your token of love and romance, let the recipient know of the symbolic gesture with an attached card.

3. When shopping for anniversary gifts, a sure way to romance is to follow the traditional anniversary gift list. The traditional list will only list the material that the gift should be made of, like paper for the first and leather for the third. After finding a meaningful gift made of the material symbolic for the anniversary you’re celebrating, try including a love note or poem. Also be sure to let the recipient know that you followed the traditional anniversary gift list. There is probably nothing quite as romantic as a mate who follows this list each year in their quest for the perfect gift.
