Jerry Falwell: Hillary Clinton Scares My Base More Than The Devil

Robert Paul Reyes
When Jerry Falwell and several hundred evangelical pastors get together for a "prayer breakfast", you would expect them to shovel food down their throats and well -- pray.

These fundamentalist preachers are not as dumb as they seem, they realize that political scheming is more effectual than praying to the Almighty. When these "men of God" got together last Friday, Hillary Clinton was at the top of the agenda.

From the Associated Press:

"If Hillary Rodham Clinton is the Democrats' presidential nominee in 2008, it will motivate conservative evangelical Christians to oppose her more then if the devil himself were running, the Rev. Jerry Falwell has told pastors at a prayer breakfast."

Hillary Clinton is a polarizing figure, and the prospect of her sitting in the Oval Office is enough to scare the BeJesus out of the average fundamentalist.

But Jerry Falwell and his cohorts have played the same hand one time too many. Fundamentalists have demonized homosexuals, pro-choice activists and other minorities to rile up the base.

Hopefully the followers of Falwell will see through his machinations, and reject the politics of personal destruction.

Hillary Clinton has done a terrific job in the Senate and she has incredible qualifications -- but having the ear of Lucifer is not one of them.

If Hillary runs for president and Falwell attempts to demonize her, I hope it will backfire and give her the boost she needs to become the first female president of the United States.
