God is Our Sustainer

When you were a baby, or when your kids were babies, you probably carried them around everywhere. Mostly, it was because they couldn´t walk but also, they needed you to hold them up in certain situations so they wouldn´t get hurt. When we are no longer babies, God is the one who picks us up.
God looks after us as children and our children, but you already knew that. It´s when we get older that our faith in His goodness begins to wane. What do we know as adults that we didn´t know as children? The answer is "nothing." Our faith dies on the vine because, instead of cultivating it, we let other philosophies and schools of thought in society nourish us. But, it isn´t nourishment at all for our souls, but confusion.
What does it mean to be "sustained by something? No matter where you find yourself, whatever sustains you is there to keep you going. A sustaining force never falters, leaves you in the lurch or fades away. Can you think of one thing on this earth that has that kind of testimonial?
Listen, anything made by the hand of man can be unmade. Just look at the Titanic, the Hindenburg or the Twin Towers. God tells us that heaven and earth may pass away, but His Word will remain intact. It is that same Word found in the Holy Bible that sustains us, if we let it.
There is one God in heaven and in earth but He has many names. Become familiar with these names and you will understand why He has them:
Jehovah Jireh: "I am your Provider"
Jehovah Shammah: "I am there"
Jehovah Shalom: "I am your Peace"
God is your provider. No matter what your circumstances God can work it out for you. For many of us, the problem we have is in our minds. We have these preconceived notions of how God is going to help us and when He doesn´t show up in that way, we turn away.
In His Word, He says that He will supply all of our needs from His bountiful riches. There is not a mention of how or when, but simply that He WILL. For your part, believing in his divine providence is all you have to do. Even the smallest seed of faith can grow into a giant tree.
Have you ever had a time when you worried about, let´s say, having the money to pay a bill? When you got to the payment center with your plea on your lips you find out that the bill is only a fraction of what you thought? Happily you pay the amount because that is exactly the amount that you have.
This scenario demonstrates how God is already where we need Him when we need Him. He shows up at the tire store before we do needing two new tires. He shows up at the grocery store before we do needing food. God is everywhere you need Him to be and, He is more reliable than Visa!
One thing that is hard to come by in this world is peace. Wars all across the globe, people starving, the nuclear weapons race, economic recession and crime don´t help you to sleep well at night. But, many people go to bed without this burden on their shoulders. Why? It´s not because they haven´t been touched by hard times or grief. It is rather because they have been touched by God first.
God never promised that we would be exempt from pain, sorrow, or hard times but He did promise to help us through those times if we place our trust in Him. Any adversity that we face gives God the opportunity to each us greater peace, love and understanding. Praying to God first brings comfort (through the Holy Spirit), a calm spirit and a loving embrace to ease our tears.
The Lord is now and forever more will be the Creator of the universe. As such, all power is in His hands. He gave us free will to choose our path in life and He asks that we choose to trust Him. Don´t let fear keep you from finding out how God can ease the pain of this world in your life.
