Internet Abuzz that "Family Values" Candidate Scott Brown Posed Nude
Internet sources have revealed that U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown posed nude in Cosmopolitan Magazine while he was a law student at Boston College. The conservative "family values" candidate is a Republican running against Democrat Martha Coakley in Tuesday´s election to fill the vacancy held by the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Brown has made appealing to the state´s Evangelical Christian vote a cornerstone of his campaign. But many socially conservative Christians in the state – now enormously disappointed in Brown – have pledged to turn their backs on him in the aftermath of the scandal.
But, unfortunately for Brown, Evangelical Christians are not the only ones staying home on election day. Conservative Tea Party voters and Independents – once staunch supporters of the GOP – remain angry at what they call the "Establishment Republican Party." These are voters who are unhappy at the GOP pushing banking deregulation and corporate bailouts. As a consequence, Brown´s opponent, Martha Coakley, enjoys a solid, 15-percentage point lead in the race.
Is Brown a hypocrite? His website states he´s running for Senate because he wants the U.S. to remain the "world´s superpower." On healthcare, Brown is opposed to the health care legislation being proposed in Congress and "would vote against it." On education, Brown says he´s "passionate" about improving our schools and supports "accountability." On abortion, Brown says the government has the responsibility to regulate in this area. Brown is also opposed to same-sex marriage. But Internet bloggers and pundits wonder about the values of a man who would pose nude in a magazine during the 1980´s – at a time when the AIDS crisis reached its peak. As a consequence, they are having a field day with the revelations. Among the comments:
"If that was a woman running for senator … or any high political office she would not get very far with a nude magazine spread in her background."
"With Sarah Palin´s intellect and this guy´s centerfold, the Republicans appear to be in the process of self-destruction. My vote will be for the Democrat."
"This is not about youthful silliness or a starving student. This is about an individual who has shown life-long, consistent bad judgment, and a willingness to do anything to get ahead."
"There´s no way that any man in 1982 would pose nude in a magazine and not be homosexual. I bet Scott Brown is a classic closeted gay Republican, which would put him among the ranks of Mark Foley and Larry Craig. I´m voting for Democrats only now."
Will candidate Brown survive the scandal in Tuesday´s election? Most experts agree – and remember – that scandals such as posing nude in magazines (Carrie Prejean) or propositioning children for sex (Mark Foley) are the death nail for credibility and support from an increasily savy voter population demanding accountability from their elected officials. It´s impossible for Brown to win. He´s too much of a hypocrite and another embarrassment for the Republican Party.
