How Financiers of Terrorist Attacks Against Somaliland Enjoy Western Lifestyle

Although Alshabaab terrorists´ horrific attacks steal attention from the other deadly groups in Somalia, some smaller group´s violent campaign also sends body parts flying over rooftops in Somaliland. Yet hardly anyone pays a scant attention to them. Worse yet, they orchestrate their villain attacks not in Somaliland—but in the West.

In November 2008, I wrote a piece entitled, "Is Canada Harbouring Terrorists Who Attacked Hargeisa? " http://tinyurl.com/pe6unu In the article, I explained how the terrorist group Alshabaab's suicide bombings in Hargeisa, Somaliland capital in October 2008 and Col. Cabdul Casiis´s (Garam Garam) grenade attacks against police station in LasAnnod the provincial capital of Sool region in November 2008 could be linked to NSUM—a violent Somali Diaspora group committed to annihilate Somaliland from the face of the earth. Because of my assertions, some readers thought I lost my sanity helmet. But did I?

In April 2009, Canada´s National Post Newspaper answered my question and detailed how Alshabaab sympathizers from Canada planned to spur chaos in Somaliland: http://www.nationalpost.com/story.html?id=1472963 Similarly, a brainwashed Somali-American from Minneapolis was among the suicide bombers that sent body part flying over rooftops in downtown Hargeisa.

To top it up, the NSUM admitted that it provided $50000 to Col. Cabdul Casiis (Garam Garam) to carry out attacks against Somaliland. After he wounded two police officers in LasAnnod with grenade attacks, he sprinted all the way to Garowe, Puntland capital, with $50000 in his pocket. He had more faith in his feet than in his escape by Land Cruiser.

In an interview with the head of the NSUM in the U.S., namely, Abdirahman Mohammed Isman (Abdi Boobe) explains the NSUM´s frustration with Col. Cabdul Casiis and how the warmonger scammed the group $50000 intended for clandestine operation against peaceful Somaliland. How about spending that $50000 on rebuilding schools and hospitals? Here is the audio interview: http://tinyurl.com/q3kbbp Mr. Isman resides in the United States. Had he admitted similar attacks against the United States, he would be camping out in the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison—America´s Auschwitz concentration camp.

Additionally, in May 2009, I wrote yet another piece entitled, "Somalia: When NSUM's "Mission Report" Fails "The" Mission". http://www.americanchronicle.com/authors/view/4458 In this article, I wrote, "Currently, the NSUM members are busy collecting money not for rebuilding schools and hospitals but for detonating explosive against Somaliland politicians, police and military officers in Sool region. Mark my word! The NSUM has its assassinations contrived."

I spoke too soon. Again, in November 2009 without a warning, a blast ripped through the heart of LasAnnod. In this devastating blast, Col. Osman Yusuf the commander of Somaliland´s 12th infantry division was assassinated. As I have predicted almost a year before the terror attack, murdering and assassinating Somaliland officials will be a new reality. A group affiliated with NSUM claimed the responsibility. http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/126825

Similarly, the NSUM´s foreign cohorts encourage terrorist attacks against Somaliland. With his words, Dr. Muhammad Shamsaddin Megalommatis—who proposes imposing a naval blockade on Somaliland, but not on Alshabaab terrorists—demands a violent bloodshed against Somaliland as he states, "Can NSUM and Patriotic Forces Lead the People to Insurgence?" He adds, "…immediately launch violent campaigns and lead the North [Somaliland] Somalis to insurgence…" http://tinyurl.com/d33rsf Dr. Megalommatis too lives in the United States. And as long as he is not calling terror attacks against the U.S., the American have no quarrels with him. Let him blow up someone else.

Also in May 2009 I stated, "The gaol of the NSUM is once Dhulbahante tribes (from Sool region) drag Isaqs tribes into a war, the wider Daarod tribes of Somalia will get involved, hence; the typical Hutu vs. Tutsi blood path will be inevitable—littering a million dead nomads on the desert of Somaliland. Unequivocally, the NSUM strategy is to foment a tribal warfare. These hate-mongers must be stopped." (Dhulbahante and Isaqs: some Somaliland tribes.)

Again, I spoke too soon! In October 2009, Col. Ali Hassan Sabarey: a former Colonel in Somalia´s brutal forces which pulverized Somaliland to dust in late 80s and currently one of the top members of the NSUM echoed a deadly war against Somaliland security forces. Shamelessly, he instigated a tribal warfare between Somaliland tribes as he invited the wider Darood tribe of Somalia to fight against Somaliland. Listen to his interview: http://tinyurl.com/yhvpxm4 Mr. Sabarey too lives none other than the West—in the heart of Canada, Toronto.

Doubtlessly, the increased and sophisticated terrorist attacks in LasAnnod remain the work of Alshabaab and its supporters. The terrorist coalition: Alshabaab and NSUM have launched yet other attack against police stations in LasAnnod. In the latest wave of terror campaign against Somaliland officials and security forces in LasAnnod three innocent police officers suffered serious injuries after grenades were hurled at a police station on January 12, 2010. Three days later, another police officer was gunned down by a group of gunmen.

Just like Mogadishu, LasAnnod is now famous for detonating explosives, assassinating and hurling grenades at law officers. Next, suicide bombings will ensue. And just like Mogadishu, all LasAnnod victims are locals and the assailants also hail from the region but they orchestrated their wave of terror in somewhere else far from Somaliland—in the hearts of U.S., Canada, Britain and other Western countries.

While the terrorist´s enormous finances pour from the West, their launch pad is none other than Puntland. Much of the money and weapons to destabilise Somaliland come through Puntland. Puntland may not be involve in the bombings directly but it harbours the groups who have been murdering Somaliland officials. Puntland is the hub for all the finances and logistics for the terrorist war against peaceful Somaliland. Usually, when the attackers carry out their murder campaign, they slip back into Puntland. And that is why Somaliland government must unambiguously inform Puntland authority that the terrorist attacks launched from Puntland will be dealt swiftly.

Many of the participants of the recently held "conference" in Nairobi, Kenya by pro-Puntland groups from Sool region´s Diaspora communities slipped back into Puntland. The main goal of the meeting was not to rebuild Sool region but to engulf it with a firestorm to evict Somaliland from the area—at any cost, by any means available.

For instance, Garaad (a tribal chief) Jama Garad Ali from Sool region, a participant of the Nairobi meeting, threatened to wage a war against Somaliland if it doesn´t leave the region. He stated unambiguously, "We must fight against Somaliland by any means necessary". That is: including terrorist campaigns.

Also, the NSUM—an organizer of the Nairobi conference—closely works with Alshabaab to destabilize Somaliland. And as stated clearly in the following article, the NSUM of course collaborates with Alshabaab. The article states, "NSUM waxay aaminsanaayeen…in Jaal dhaw oo dahsoon lala noqodo Xarakooyinka dagaalka…or the NSUM advocates for working closely with Alshabaab (Xarakooyinka)". http://wardheernews.com/Articles_09/October/Axmed_Maxamed/16_Maxaa_la_Gudboon_Hoggaanka_HBM.html (wardheernews website: is an advocate for promoting violence against Somaliland.) And no sooner was the Nairobi meeting rapped up than a wave of terrorist bombings hit LasAnnod. The city went from LasAnnod (the lake of milk) to LasDhiig( the lake of blood) right after the meeting ended.

Meanwhile, Alshabaab remains a deadly terrorist organization that would spare no body. Recently, Somaliland security forces foiled a number of terrorist attacks which Alshabaab orchestrated. The targets included Mosques, bridges, and government offices, just to name few.

It is time for the Somaliland Diaspora communities to stand up and fight back. Through our local constituencies, we must bitterly protest against the host countries for permitting the preceding individuals´ to device terrorist campaigns against Somaliland.

Evidently, while the majority of Somaliland Diaspora communities send remittances back home for rebuilding schools and hospital, a small group called NSUM sends money for purchasing explosives. And with the help of the notorious Alshabaab terrorists, their money is turning LasAnnod into the Mogadishu (Muuqdisho) of Somaliland. But make no mistake: never will Somaliland succumb to terrorist´s demands.

As for the West, it eagerly accuses other countries for harbouring terrorists. Yet it remains oblivious of the terrorists who attack other nations—including Somaliland—while using the West as a launch pad. What is good for the West is also good for Somaliland—free from terrorist attacks.
