Rosie O’Donnell: You Go Girl!
O’Donnell was quick to react when co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck noted militant Islam provides a threat to free people.
Just a minute,” she interrupted. “Radical Christianity is just as threatening as radical Islam in a country like America where we have separation of church and state.”
Radical Christians (read: fundamentalists) are in an uproar, you’d think that Rosie accused the Pope of wearing women’s underwear.
Granted fundamentalists don’t blow themselves up in pizza parlors, movie theatres or malls, but some fundamentalist extremists have blown up abortion clinics and murdered physicians who believe in choice.
And the homophobic rantings of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson have inspired attacks on gays and lesbians. O’Donnell’s rebuke of fundamentalist Christians was spot on.
Rosie rebuked fundamentalists in the context of their threat to the separation of church and state. Can anyone argue that televangelists venerating their graven images representing the 10 Commandments are not a threat to the constitutional doctrine of separation of church and state?
I don’t watch The View, it’s not my cup of tea, but I’m glad that O’Donnell is onboard to lend the show some much needed credibility. She’s not the type to close the show with a “God bless America”, she’s more likely to expose our religious hypocrisy.
You go Rosie! You go girl!
