What Do Elected Officials Owe The Voters?

Ken Hughes
The Internet Bloggers are creating a great deal of controversy in the political world. The mainstream media for the most part discredit us as being irrelevant. That doesn’t keep us from pointing out the inaccuracies in their reporting when they occur.

There’s bias on both sides of the isles of Congress. If you’re conservative like I am, we see the left as obstructionists. If you’re liberal you see the right as greedy, insensitive to the peoples needs. There’s probably some truth in both views. Politics can be akin to mud-wrestling with pigs, it’s a dirty business but someone has to do it.

Television’s become the aphrodisiac of Congress. Men who once wore wool suites, smoked Cuban cigars, drink Scotch, Horse-traded America’s potentials for one pork project, or another ruled the halls of congress. Today congressional representatives are more apt to resemble a, Neiman Marcus Mannequins than working elected officials. Appearance has replaced intelligence and integrity. Today the media [aka] Cable television plays a grater role by showcasing perceptions, more than the old print media could ever accomplish.

Is it possible the Senate in their zeal to accomplish have over stepped the bound of good taste? Are they carrying their investigations too far? It may only be an opinion but shouldn’t a crime be committed before the accused is punished? This has been an internet position for sometime. Individually the internet can be very biased, accumulatively it provides the indisputable facts in nearly every situation.

Hopefully future Senators will have a better understanding of the constitution and its meanings. Perhaps they will be less inclined to make their own interpretations and more willing to follow the founding fathers intent. There are those who believe the constitution should be a living document subject to changes with the changes in our society. Others believe it’s the law and should be followed as is. This debate will undoubtedly go on forever or as long as men debate. The coming 2006 congressional elections will be interesting. Will the country go further right or will it swing back left? I know where I have my money placed.

Left or right, we’re all Americas, its time for the ranker and hostility to cease on both sides of the political spectrum. We are in a war not of our making. A pseudo religious fanaticism is engulfing the world. This isn’t Islam, it’s a perversion of the teachings of Muhammad. This is a Koran rewritten in the name of a few clerics’ whose only goal is self-aggrandizement. There’re a billion and a quarter Muslims in the world. How many are terrorists? How many are terrorist sympathizers? Perhaps it’s time to find a way of bringing mainstream Muslims in to mainstream society.

This is something politicians could work on rather than the food fights they’ve been involved in lately. They owe us something.
