UP TO NOW, HAS OSAMA BIN LADEN ACTUALLY BEEN "CRAZY LIKE A FOX"?

Gary Ater
Many of Osama bin Ladenīs strategic goals were seriously assisted by the previous Bush Administration.

...As Osama bin Laden said, he wanted "to bleed America financially into total bankruptcy".

As I was writing my recent article about the first Decade of 2000, I also had some strange, irritating thoughts that kept popping up in the back of my head. What I finally realized was that I was wondering how Osama bin Laden must be feeling today about his past successes, or failures, over this past decade.

I then tried to put myself in his place. The more I did, the more it became evident that in many ways, he must be feeling pretty positive right now. This is especially true about the past successes of his long term strategies that were targeted at all of the non-Muslim, industrialized countries of the west.

Iīm sure after making a statement such as that, some of my readers must now be saying, "Well, there he goes. Now heīs really slipped a cog and gone over the edge."

But actually, when you look at where the situation is today, a good portion of Osamaīs long-term strategy is probably well beyond where he had expected it would be.

To show you what I mean, letīs look at the situations in America and the free world over the past decade from the perspective of a Muslim extremist.

First, both prior to and after the 9/11 attacks, just what was it that Osama wanted to achieve against all non-Muslim countries, particularly the United States?

Yes, he said he wanted to kill as many non-Muslim infidels as possible. But his targeting of the World Trade Center Towers was because he wanted to destroy both innocent Americans and the US economy, as well as the financial symbol of the largest capitalist western country. He didnīt just want to just kill Americans. He was after Americans, other westerners and the spirit of America, as well as to destroy the symbol of the financial headquarters of the United States and the western world.

And after the 9/11 attack, in the short term, thatīs exactly what happened.

In addition, shortly after 9/11, the Bush Administration decided to go through the massive US government reorganization which subsequently spawned the new Homeland Security Agency. This was the largest and most expensive reorganization of the US federal government in US history. All of this very costly activity was wholly perpetrated by the 9/11 attacks of only four commercial aircraft. From the insurgentīs point-of-view, that in itself is a pretty big success for a single morning of attacks that killed over 3000 American and western civilians at their cost of only 19 Muslim martyrs.

And remember, the 9/11 attacks were also on world-wide television for the days and weeks after the attacks and the names of Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda had become known globally for the very first time.

In addition, after 9/11, the Bush Administration continually used the 9/11 attacks to promote as much fear as possible among all Americans. And that also fulfilled one of Osamaīs goals which was, "To make Americans totally afraid of Islamīs power". Today, after eight plus years, fear of a terrorist attack is still the GOPīs #1 tool for promoting their party. (Oh you know, their big issue of "We kept Americans safe on our watch." But wasnīt 9/11 "on their watch"…?)

Another item that Osama wanted to achieve for promoting his cause was to get the United States and other western countries to attack a Muslim middle-eastern country. He felt that this would be the best way to kill Americans while recruiting more Muslims for the extreme causes of the very devout Muslims in the middle east.

Well, Osama really got his wish (and then some) when the US went after him in Afghanistan where he came close to losing his own life. But President George W. Bush allowed him to escape while he was also awarding Osama one of his most desired goals. That was when the president of the United States preemptively invaded another Muslim country that had nothing to do with Osamaīs causes.

What more could Osama have asked for?

Here, Osamaīs #1 enemy, with superior fire-power, attacks another middle-eastern Muslim country that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks.

This also sets the stage for a new al Qaeda location for fighting Americans while recruiting more devout Muslims. And all of this is being done while bin Laden doesnīt even have to leave his hiding place. Bush & Companyīs American troops and his new Muslim recruits are now coming to support his cause, right there in the middle east.

During the initial 3-4 years of the war in Iraq, al Qaeda became the fastest growing world-wide extreme militant organizations in the world.

In addition, due to the miscalculations of the Bush administrations in the management of the war in Iraq, the US then offered the extremists the best recruiting tools that the Americans could provide. Those tools included the inappropriate treatment of many of the Iraqi civilians (as seen daily on evening cable news), the development and questionable operation of the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center, the change in US policy for using torture on war detainees, the torture pictures that hit the internet from Abu Ghraib military prison, and the continued fear-mongering and selling of the "War on Terrorism" within the United States. Osama himself couldnīt have written a better script for promoting his extremist causes amongst other Muslims.

The GOP, and the Bush Administration were totally blind-sided to the fact that they had fallen in line for providing Osama and his leaders exactly what they wanted for promoting their extreme Muslim goals. Because of 9/11, al Qaeda today is the single most well known extreme militant operation in the world. And they have proven that they are not just after America and its citizens. They are after ALL industrialized, non-Muslim countries.

All of this activity has been continuing while the Republicans have continued to talk about "how safe they have kept America since the 9/11 attacks". But the reality is that al Qaeda had realized early on that instead of attacking America, it was much better to kill young American troops in Iraq using IEDīs and suicide bombers. This was much better, cheaper and easier than it was to spend all of their limited resources in going after risky targets on American soil.

They also knew that there were other non-Muslim countries that had not really put up that many safe-guards against a potential terrorist attack. The extremists had learned that in order to promote their causes, they seriously needed to go "global". They understood that by doing this, they would dominate the world media and TV news wherever and whenever they attacked. This would become the best advertising of their global efforts that money could buy, and yet they wouldnīt have to spend a dime.

For this reason, in 2002, Muslim extremists set off bombs in Bali, Indonesia, killing 202 people and seriously wounding 250 additional innocent bystanders. In 2004, al Qaeda-inspired Muslims bombed a passenger train in Madrid, Spain, killing 191 passengers and wounding 1800 others. In 2005, Muslim extremists exploded three suicide bombs in the London, Englandīs transportation system killing 56 people and wounding 700 bystanders. In 2008, in a related event, insurgents bombed 3 locations in Mumbai, India that killed 86 people, including 11 police officers and 250 others. And on Christmas day in 2009, there was a failed Muslim extremist bomb attempt on a plane coming from Amsterdam, Holland to Detroit, Michigan.

Osama and his al Qaedaīs long-term goal is to become a world-wide Muslim terrorist organization that eventually causes the western industrialized world to become totally fearful of Islam and the Muslim world. And as per an early Osama video, they also plan on doing whatever it takes to cause the West to spend themselves into eventual world bankruptcy. As Obama had said, "to bleed America financially into total bankruptcy".

With so many of the oil-rich Muslim countries providing the financial support for Osama and other extreme Muslim organizations, the extremists outwardly appear to slowly be achieving their long-term goals.

And what makes me come to that determination?

Well, as I was writing the recent column I mentioned about the end of the first 2000 decade, it hit me that the first decade of 2000 has been recently called the "Lost Decade", the "Failed Decade" and the "Decade from Hell".

And just why does the media refer to the past decade that way?

In retrospect, it is very true that many of the problems for the average American over the past decade began in earnest just after the 9/11 attacks.

And today, at the end of this decade, we just need to review as to where America and the average American is today:

>>> America is coming out of a down economy, 2nd only to the .

>>>Highest unemployment in decades.

>>> According to the GAO, the average American annual wage today, adjusted for inflation, is less than it was in 1999.

>>> Massive mortgage foreclosures and the largest ever increases in personal bankruptcies.

>>> Health Care Costs have gone through the roof

>>> Millions of job losses to overseas companies over the last ten years.

>>> Today, America has a total reliance on foreign oil.

>>> A war in Iraq and Afghanistan is costing taxpayers an annual average of $1 million per US soldier

>>> US troops are having to go back to the middle-east for multiple tours

>>> Major US banks and corporations were having to be rescued by the US government

I could go on, but from the Muslim extremist point-of-view, they can tie much of this negative American news directly or indirectly to that one catastrophic event on September 11, 2001.

Yes, Osama probably thought that he would eventually be hunted down after 9/11 and that he might become a dead Muslim martyr. But George W. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld saved Osama from that fate. Osama may be living in a cave and hiding from the infidels, but his life isnīt that much different from that of most middle-eastern Muslims of the last 1000 years. So from his point-of-view, Osama has probably progressed much farther toward his original goals than he had ever expected.

Now, is this all really true? Well, I wonīt attempt to say that I know that this is really how a Muslim extremist such as Osama would actually feel about the last ten years. But Iīm willing to believe that if Osama is still alive, he is probably waking up smiling every morning knowing that his #1 enemy has done a whole lot in helping him achieve his ultimate goals.

President George W. Bush has seriously helped Osama bin Laden be "crazy like a fox".
