No Cost of Living for Seniors And the truth behind it

Dale Netherton
Seniors are notified this year that there will be no cost of living increase attached to their Social Security checks because there was no inflation. Nothing is said about the fact that when the cost of living increase was passed into law the cost of living was determined ( by the government) by a different set of measurements. The old measurement included the two items most indicative of the cost of living i.e food and fuel. The people charged with coming up with a different measurement rationalized that these two categories ( food and fuel) were too volatile (?). What does volatility have to do with how inflation is measured? If a price goes up and down what is so difficult about determining the average for the year instead of eliminating the category?

This obfuscation technique has not been questioned although the accounting method certainly has been and has been largely ignored by the press and the politicians. You can check out the complete story on this fraud by clicking here and reading the article by Jim Puplava.

The method politicians use to pander to voters is to promise and pander but when the money runs out, as it must eventually do, there has to be cutbacks, distortion, fraud, cooking the books and all sorts of corruption to try to keep the fraud going. This is why Social Security is going broke and would go broke quicker if the cost of living increases were added onto the bill. The coming cuts in Medicare under the auspices of "savings´ for Universal Health Care is another variation of the same method.

Under the group warfare scenario we are witnessing it is the squeaky wheel that will get greased and the other wheels will be ignored until the wagon locks up. Politicians always bend to the most vocal and those that can increase their chances of reelection. Knowing they would suffer under a Social Security System that would not keep up with inflation they create their own retirement that avoids that worry for them.

We have hired politicians to represent us and our interests but they like all others look to their own interests first. Election and reelection is their first priority. This is why government should not be allowed to grow without limits. This is why government like all other goods and services should be voluntary. The politicians claim no one would voluntary pay for government services but the fact is we have a voluntary army and they raise voluntary contributions for their campaigns in the millions. If they could not coerce payments they could not dream up nonsensical programs doomed to eventual failure like Medicare and Social Security.

Voters who continue to believe politicians can do something to improve their life by disrupting the economy and providing subsidies and price controls and rationing ( which is all that government can do..it creates nothing) will continue to be frustrated and disappointed since what they expect cannot be provided.

History is replete with examples of governments that spent more than they could confiscate, borrowed more than they could pay back and entered wars they could not win. Yet the politicians stand on a podium, promise the impossible and know that there are bunch of sucker voters who will vote them in if for no other reason that they might be better than what was in office before. The Elmer Gantry´s of the political realm need to be profiled and rejected just as the terrorists need to be "looked in the eye" as they do at the Tel Aviv airport looking for fidgeting and nervousness. Politicians need to be asked how they intend to do better with other people´s money than the people who earn it. Politicians need to be asked up front what ever gives them the idea they can run other people´s business when they are not able to balance their own budget. Politicians need to be asked to reduce government to the functions it was created for and NO MORE than that.

The message must be promoted that politicians operate on a scheme that if not legalized would be simple criminal behavior. They are running a protection racket, ponzi schemes and fraud. Trusting them has led us to the state where the destiny of the country is at stake. The Founding Fathers were a different breed of politicians that recognized and fought for individual rights. Their decedents have failed miserably to follow through on this promise of freedom and prosperity.
