An Interview With Author Diane Craver

Miss Mae
*squeee, crackle, static, bling, bling, beep!*

Nosey: Greetings, cypernuts! This is I.B. Nosey, your official unofficial reporter, and we interrupt this radio program to bring you this important announcement. It´s phenomenal! It´s stupendous! It´s creative! Wait…oh, I dropped my papers…

DC: Nosey? My interview is with you? I thought Miss Mae was going to be here!

Nosey: Uh, well…*sounds of shuffling papers*…she´s off to soothe the ruffled feathers of Mother Goose, I´m afraid.

DC: Oh, right. I remember that. Did you win the prize at the Ugly Bug Ball?

Nosey: Let's don't talk about that. We're here to share your news--if I can find it--and Miss Mae has left me in charge with all the information and I…um…ahem…yes, here it is! Greetings, audience and readers! Appearing today on the Pure Southern Genteel blog is that famous Ohioan author, Dentyne Carver!

DC: That´s Diane Craver.

Nosey: Huh?

DC: My name is Diane Craver.

Nosey: Sorry. My chewing gum wrapper stuck to the script.

DC: Sigh. I can tell I´m going to need a glass of Miss Mae´s lemonade.

Nosey: Uh…the producer is wagging his finger at me. Let´s get down to business. Miss Mae wants to know if you consider yourself a bona-fide author.

DC: And my answer would be that yes, I do. I have 3 nonfiction books and 5 novels. I've had several articles published online and in magazines. I spend lots of time on writing and promo so look at it as a career. It's a challenge being a writer because I'm not sitting around all day creating stories. I bet you thought I was pecking away on my laptop, sipping coffee, and living a carefree life. I'm usually doing housework or taking care of my family when I think of my best ideas for new books.

Nosey: Is that coffee laced with Miss Mae´s lemonade? Oh, sorry, no glares, please. Okay, second question. Your newest release is a romance titled Marrying Mallory. What character (s) do you like best in this story, and why?

DC: I like Mallory the best but Seth is a close second. Mallory is a strong Christian woman and wants the best for her son Josh. She's unhappy that she's divorced but realizes Toby made it hard to stay with him when he didn't care about their marriage.

I enjoyed writing Mallory because in spite of her failed marriage, she keeps her sense of humor as she moves forward with her life.

Seth is the type of guy every woman should have in her life. He's funny, good-looking, dependable, charming, and even though he's a plastic surgeon, he only does what he believes is in the best interest of the patient.

Nosey: Hey, it sounds like you wrote Seth with me in mind. A good looking guy, dependable, and charming…okay, okay, more glares! Where were we? Right. Third question. So then what character (s) did you like the least?

DC: I like Toby the least because of the way he treats Mallory. He cheated on her during their marriage and he lied to her. She put him through law school and she made many sacrifices during their marriage.

Nosey: Ouch. Definitely a lousy dude. No comparison between him and Seth, huh? So, Diane, you´re sitting comfy in your armchair sipping on that cup of coffee. Are you mostly a coffee drinker, or maybe you prefer hot tea?

DC: I'm a big coffee drinker. I do like iced tea in the summer though, and I sometimes drink green tea. I did quit drinking coffee once though because I thought the caffeine made me hungry, but I had to keep making it for my husband. I decided to go back to drinking coffee. I try to curb my appetite now.

Nosey: I hear coffee goes well with chocolate, at least that what Miss Mae says.

DC: Chocolate goes with anything, my little man.

Nosey: Except green apples. Ever try to dip one of them babies in hot fudge sauce? Doesn´t make for a good dessert.

DC: And when did you have chocolate covered green apples for dessert?

Nosey: Miss Mae served it right after my interview with Mother Goose.

DC: Hmm. My favorite dessert is ice cream – I have several flavors I like. Dutch chocolate almond, cherry cordial and pumpkin are a few of them. My characters also like ice cream a lot. And I hate sharing with them.

Nosey: What about colors? You have a favorite?

DC: I guess blue. I seem to wear that color a lot. I also like to use blue in decorating.

Nosey: Blue is a cold color, isn´t it? Is that significant? Does that mean you like cold weather as opposed to a warm season?

DC: I definitely prefer spring. Spring is my favorite season since you can put away the bulky clothes and go outside for walks, bicycling, and to plant flowers.

Nosey: Oh, a gardener too! Yes, spring is the time for flowers, lightning bugs, poison ivy, mosquitoes…all the fun stuff.

DC: Nosey, I wonder about you.

Nosey: Well, I wonder if you like animals. Do you?

DC: Yep. We don't have any cats or dogs right now, but I've always preferred dogs.

Nosey: Ms. Craver, I sure have learned a lot about you, the author. You´ve made me curious. Does your personality influence your writing in any way?

DC: I think my most productive writing time for starting a new story might be in the spring. The reason I say this is because I started writing a lot of my published books in the spring. Of course, they didn't get finished until the fall or winter! I'm a slow writer.

Nosey: So that does sound like a yes. Now, one final question that I´m sure all your readers are biting their nails to learn, because it´s an intimate detail that´s never been shared before, but now THE WHOLE WORLD WILL KNOW…

Diane Craver, in your house, does the toilet paper go OVER or UNDER the roll???

DC: Over – my husband is even trained now to put the roll on so that the sheets come off over. Now if I could just get him to do other things the way I want. LOL

Nosey: There you have it, Readerland. The truth is known! Ms. Craver, thank you for appearing with me today and for sharing pieces of your life with our audience.

DC: Thank you so much for interviewing me. It's been a lot of fun!

Nosey: Readers, head on over to Ms. Craver´s site for more information.

Blurb: Is Mallory Harrington jinxed because her name means luckless? Things have gone wrong for Mallory since she was a small child. All she ever wanted was to have a complete family and live happily ever after. It appears she has it all when she marries Toby Harrington and they have a son. Unfortunately, their marriage ends when Toby has an affair with his law partner. After their divorce, Mallory feels guilt that she couldn't forgive Toby for his affair. As a Christian, she should be able to forgive him for his sin.

Mallory decides to do something for herself, and get a surgical procedure that she's always wanted. What she doesn't expect is her instant attraction to her surgeon.

Sometimes faith is about accepting what can´t be changed and grabbing what God offers her. Life must go on.
