SLERS Ham & Café now in SM North EDSA´s Sky Garden

SLERS Ham & Café has joined Coffeeworks in SM North EDSA´s Sky Garden in what could mark a Kagay-anon invasion of the elevated curvilinear park which boasts of a 400-meter canopied walkway that serves as a buffer from the busy EDSA intersection and as a shaded common access point for the whole mall linking the main mall building, the Block, the new Annex building and the car park.

The P600 million Sky Garden is a 15,500 square meter open-air outdoor park teeming with various trees, plants and green carpet grass dotted with dining outlets, retail shops and entertainment centers for the whole family.

Dining spots are predominantly grills and cafes that suit the open-air outdoor set-up notably among which are Kagay-anon owned and operated Coffeeworks and SLERS Ham & Café, Coffee Experience and Starbucks,Cello´s Donuts, Freshbar by Big Chill and Kitchen of Cakes & Coffee, among others.

Like its progenitor at the ground floor of the Amparo Lim Building at the corner of Don Apolinar Velez and M.H. del Pilar Streets in Cagayan de Oro, SLERS Ham & Café at the SM North EDSA Sky Garden was conceptualized by SLERS franchising director Litlit Mejia who saw a unique opportunity with putting SLERS Ham & Café in the Sky Garden.

"This may be a small place but it´s a big opportunity to introduce our line of SLERS products to the people of Metro Manila," she noted.

SLERS Industries, Inc. is a Cagayan de Oro based family-business started by Ofelia "Fely" Cosin-Pelaez 39 years ago in Del Monte, Bukidnon. Starting with country style ham she made for plantation employees during Christmas, the home-based "cottage industry" now has a full range of meat products including Pinoy staples tocino and longganisa, bacon and hotdog, and the famous SLERS Jamon de Cagayan de Oro.

In January of 2006, SLERS started chicharon production. Later, SLERS started selling its chicharon from kiosks around Cagayan de Oro as an affordable pasalubong item from CDO. In addition to chicharon, SLERS PiCA –PiCA (as the kiosk style sales outlet is named) also carries nuts, dried fruits, sardines and vinegar, thus becoming a truly one stop pasalubong shop.

By August of the same year, the company opened SLERS Express Meals – a Quick Service Restaurant that is also a one stop shop for SLERS products.

However, beyond being an ideal merchandising venue for SLERS products, SLERS Ham & Café in the SM North EDSA Sky Garden also offers the unique products like its progenitor in Cagayan de Oro.

The coffee obviously being the heart and soul of any café worth its cappuccino, SLERS Ham & Café offers the famous Caffe Danesi, the best selling espresso in Rome, New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Tel Aviv, Moscow and Manila. Caffe Danesi is easily recognizable for its characteristics: sweet, creamy and aromatic. Besides Espresso, the lucky patron can also savor other Caffe Danesi classics such as Cappucino, Café Americano (brewed) and Latte.

For patrons with more worldly and cosmopolitan tastes, the café offers Darjeeling tea, also known as the champagne of teas, from the Darjeeling region in West Bengal, India which traditionally been prized above all other black teas, especially in the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth.

Brewed Darjeeling tea yields a thin-bodied, light-colored liquor with a floral aroma with a tinge of astringent tannic and a musky spiciness often referred to by tea connoisseurs as 'muscatel' which leaves a sweet cooling aftertaste in the mouth.

And for the local touch, tourists and balikbayans wanting to experience the famed Tsokolate of the Cagayan de Oro of yesteryear can order a steaming cup made from the best Maestrado Tablea.
