Jerry Falwell's Ideal Presidential Candidate

Robert Paul Reyes
In an article published in WorldNetDaily, Jerry Falwell wrote:

"While the 2008 elections are far off on the horizon, the political pundits, experts and soothsayers are already scrutinizing the chances of the potential candidates to achieve the White House in two years.

With that in mind, I decided to break down what type of presidential candidate could win the energetic support of the evangelical vote...

We also seek after a leader who will unite government with the private sector and religious institutions in mending the American family, which is being torn to shreds."

Jerry Falwell longs for a president who will unite government and religious (re: Christian) institutions in mending the American family.

My family, and millions of other American families, don't need any interference from the government or from fascist-religious organizations.

The only extent of the involvement of the federal government in families, should be to legalize same-sex marriage. There are multitudes of perfectly healthy families headed by same-sex partners, that don't enjoy the legal benefits and protections afforded to other families.

The constitutional doctrine of separation of church and state is obviously anathema to the likes of Jerry Falwell, but if we as a nation don't abide by it we will go the way of Iran and Afghanistan under the Taliban.

No Jerry, the last thing this country needs is a president who forms an unholy league with evangelical organizations, in a bid to legislate morality.
