Wedding Venues Western Cape - From Working Farm To Historic Wine Estate

A choice of a number of unique wedding venues in the Western Cape is making it possible to have a very special celebration in this beautiful, diverse part of South Africa.

Doornfontein, a working West Coast farm adjoining the Berg River is available as a wedding venue for a small wedding party of sixty to eighty people.

From Velddrift, at the mouth of the Berg River, it is about 13km on the Piketberg road to Doornfontein.

The farm is a working operation with 1000 sheep and 300 head of cattle, with wheat and other grain crops grown in winter. The climate is typically Mediterranean.

Guests stay in the restored original homestead or in the cottage adjoining the indoor pool. Doornfontein offers 9 individually decorated en suite rooms. Guests can be assured of professional and personal attention throughout their stay in a relaxed and homely atmosphere.

A similarly small wedding party can be accommodated on the historic Muratie Wine Estate near Stellenbosch. The farm dates right back to the time of the Governor at the Cape, William Adriaan van der Stel, who instructed a German soldier called Lourens Campher to start farming the area.

The unique character of the Estate was developed through the centuries by owners including G.P. Canitz, an artist who trained in Paris in the early 1900's. He continued to paint, have exhibitions, sell a few paintings and slowly started developing the estate.

The painting behind the cellar table is the one used for our Amber Forever wine - she was on of Canitz's models and probably his mistress as well.

A Western Cape wedding venue catering for a larger group of up to 200 guests is the Nuy Valley Restaurant, Guest Farm and Vineyards.

Nuy Valley Guest Farm is a family owned working wine farm with a boutique wine cellar, situated in one of the most beautiful valleys of the Cape Winelands, about an hour's drive from Cape Town.

The Guest Farm can accommodate 75 guests in 18 en-suite rooms with TV, aircon, fans, some with balcony and valley view, all large and very comfortable.

Apart from weddings, the Guest Farm is a popular venue for team building sessions and conferences. The Nuy Valley Restaurant and Conference Hall seats up to 1 300 people.
