After a long wait, the Nepal government has decided to hold a historic cabinet meeting dedicated to climate change in the Himalayas on December 4. Earlier the meeting was postponed due to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal's health.

Forest Minister Deepak Bohara, in a press conference this week in Kathmandu said that they are fully prepared for the meeting and everything has been arranged.

A joint press release issued by Tourism Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari, Forest Minister Deepak Bohara and Environment Minister Thakur Prasad Sharma said," The cabinet meeting of the government on the laps of majestic Himalayas is a step further to express its commitment to safeguard sanctity of the Himalayas for the common interest of local to global communities."

The meeting, to be presided by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, will be held at Kalapatthar, which is at the height of 17,192 feet. Around 27 ministers and other government officials will attend the meeting.

Ministers, in the press conference, said that this is just a beginning for country's long term goal towards making it a green nation.

"Nepal's position is unique in this debate as it is centrally located in the middle of the three thousands kilometer long Himalayan range which covers several countries including two of the most populated countries on the planet-- China and India." said Minister Bohara.

Ministers will fly to Solukhumbu on December 3. Doctors will check the health of ministers at Syanbokche. On December 4 ministers will use helicopter to reach Kalapatthar. It is said the meeting will last for 20 minutes. After the meeting at Kalapatthar, they will hold a press conference at Syanbokche.

The meeting will endorse Nepal's position paper on climate change that will be presented by the prime minister at the upcoming United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, Denmark.
