Movie - 2012

Over the weekend I went to watch the movie 2012 in Alameda theater with my family because I have heard so much about this movie and also wanted to see it as now we are talking about global warming and its adverse effects on the Earth. It is good movie.

If the global warming continues to grow like it is doing now, whether any calendar has forecasted or not, we definitely should be prepared for the day like this as depicted in the movie, sooner or later. Because of the rapidly changing environment, ecologist has warned us about it from time to time. We have been witnessing the melting down of ice in the North Pole, South Pole Antarctic´s and the third pole Himalayas.

The story of movie is based on Mayan´s calendar. In fact not only Mayan´s calendar but Hindu´s religious scriptures also tell the same story about the end of the world.

In Sanskrit, the world "Pralaya" means the same thing - "end of the world".

"Pralaya" will take place when the development reaches its peak in this world, when everything is valued in terms of monetary gains, when humanitarian feelings will be overridden by the material value, then the world´s ending will be inevitable.

Movie also tries to warn us that we should not harm but to love the Mother Nature and if we are not willing to do so be prepared for day like this. We have to grab the message given by this movie, not just watch for more then two hours and say "Oh!

It was nice, entertaining movie bit scary too." As a responsible citizen of the world we have to think and act about the ecological problems that we have already started facing now.

Development ultimately brings destruction too, for example, the excess production of Co2 by developed country creating green house effect and the consequence whole world is suffering now. I am proud to be born in a third world country Nepal in this sense that we are not polluting the planet like others do. We live in natural and simple way, still. That´s why Nepal is described as part of heaven in Hindu´s religious scriptures. You can ask anyone who have been to Nepal; they will agree it has the most beautiful natural assets in the world. In the movie 2012 the highest part of the world which will not be destroyed is in Nepal and Tibet. But the director of the movie seems to have forgotten to mention Nepal - the country where Mt. Everest stands tall. Just for the record, Nepal has eight of the ten highest peaks (over 8000m.) in the world.

Nepal politically also has remained independent, though it is geographically located between two giant nations: the giant communist China in the north and the largest democratic nation, India in the south. But Nepal has been independent nation since it became a nation nearly 250 years ago. We have our own calendar "Bikram Sambat" which is now running on 2066th year so we have already passed our 2012 long time back. Nepal is country where two religions Hinduism and Buddhism live in harmony, where followers of both religions go the same temple for praying.

Beside this Nepal have one and only unique flag in the world. Has Sun and Moon in the two red triangles. No other country has such flag having two celestial bodies which are our essential sources of light. I am proud to be born in Nepal, which is country of diversity in nature and culture. That is why People from Nepal are proud to be a Nepali. Naturally I as an American Nepali get upset when someone forgets to mention my great nation Nepal, when they should, like in this movie 2012.Nepal is home of Sherpa´s the best mountaineers in the world.

How a famous and reputed Director like Roland Emmerich can forget to mention about Nepal, this is not something out of context. This is not just me, every other Nepali and all of my friends, asking the same question?

My daughter Monsoon who is 10th grade student goes Alameda high school asked me the same question. So on behalf of all those I would like to ask ´Why Nepal was not mentioned in the movie 2012?? I am hoping to get an answer from the related authority.
