DARE CROSSING FROM SPIN AND SPAM

Susan Elaine Wheeler
Buyer beware has become the standard for responsible adults in our country. Everyday choices that put nutrition before toxins, exercise before obesity and prevention before disease takes tremendous will power. When the truth in advertising went missing from our airwaves and replaced with spin and spam, your objectivity becomes distorted. Where do you find intelligent reporting that balances the perspectives from reliable sources, providing real facts and solid statistics? Comparisons based on the issues with accurate follow-up would decipher the chaos.

Michael Brenner, the Senior Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations posted an article on the Huffington Post called Lies, Statistics and Economic Statistics. The message concluded, "That making sense of the figures we read, demands a large measure of skepticism and an eye for misrepresentation and forgery." In other words, Buyer Beware.

Contradictions are the obvious show and tell. When something sounds like one thing but actually means something totally different thatīs the forewarning. Check out John McCainīs bill that would effectively kill Net Neutrality. The Internet Freedom Act, is a bill coming from a person who is computer illiterate. The bill would allow the Internet Service Providers to put their own content in front of competitors by slowing or blocking access to other web content. The irony is that McCain receives more telecom campaign cash that anyone else in Congress.

Watching the petty in-fighting on Capitol Hill, shows the confines of our democracy getting mauled. The monies paid through donations to politicianīs campaigns are buying these individuals and stonewalling progress. It should not cost a billion dollars to run for the top public office in this country.

The new voice in the White House is finding our society at extremes because the truth has been missing for too long. Are we a country consumed with war and greed that use ancient ways to settle disputes or are we an educated society that respects our constitution and the ideologies that made our country great?

The banks and the financial community have a responsibility to lend investment capital. American citizens bailed out these institutions that took advantage of our investments and now itīs their turn to support new sustainable projects capped at a 5% interest rate for clean energies, education and preventive health care.

Our biggest investment has been the military. Thereīs no value added when money is borrowed and burned with destruction. That same money invested in education would have brought a higher yield of smart young adults advancing our country in sustainable industries, maintaining a strong economy.

Why are personal matters like abortion being decided by the courts with laws that control and invade our privacy. Abortion is a choice no one wants to make but the option needs to be there for those that have to make that choice. Itīs a personal decision between two people.

Respecting the qualities in each other is the first step towards stopping domestic and gang violence. Education provides the lessons that enable our minds to understand the world we live. Trust in your liberties and the pursuit of happiness by choosing peaceful ways for your family, neighborhood and city. When we make changes to encourage peace with understanding and helping each other, this positive energy evolves as compassion for humankind.

Fear is controlling so many because the future is unclear. The chaos surrounding our society is dishonestly. President Obama should listen to his heart and stop listening to the old school that has taken our country so far outside the prosperous zone.

Itīs up to you to decide what you believe and what you want our future to be.

Will you dare crossover from the old school ways and provide our children with a healthy country of values and ethics that sustain integrity and promote responsibility and accountability?
