Anchorage Drug Dealer Sentenced to 60 Months in Federal Prison

ANCHORAGE, AK—United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced today, November 12, 2009, that Wendy Lynn Starr, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 60 months for her conviction of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
United States District Court Judge John W. Sedwick imposed the sentence on Starr, 38.
According to information presented to the court by Special Assistant United States Attorney Erin White, law enforcement found 43 grams of "crack cocaine" in Starr´s possession during a traffic stop. Starr has a criminal history dating back twenty years for offenses such as prostitution, false information, battery, driving without a license, felony theft, and driving under the influence. In 1997, the State of Louisiana issued a warrant for Starr´s arrest because she failed to appear to answer to an indictment for felony forgery.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Sedwick noted the serious nature of the offense and held that the mandatory minimum sentence of 60 months should deter the defendant and others from committing similar crimes.
Ms. Loeffler commended the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Anchorage Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Starr. Ms. White is one of two prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney´s Office who are funded by the Municipality of Anchorage for the purpose of prosecuting gang-related and violent crime cases.
