Pelosi Announces Committee Assignments for New Members Garamendi and Owens

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the House Democratic Steering Committee has approved recommendations for committee appointments for two new Members, Congressman John Garamendi of California and Congressman Bill Owens of New York, who were both sworn in earlier this month.
"The committees will be well served by the depth of knowledge and fresh perspective Congressman Owens and Congressman Garamendi bring with them to their new assignments," Speaker Pelosi said. "As independent voices for the unique concerns of their constituents, they will be a tremendous resource in the New Direction Congress as we continue to work on behalf of all of America´s families."
The Steering Committee approved the following recommendations. The full Democratic Caucus is expected to approve these recommendations at its next meeting.
Congressman John Garamendi of California
House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
House Science and Technology Committee
Congressman Bill Owens of New York
House Armed Services Committee
House Homeland Security Committee
