3 Rookie Copywriting Mistakes

Dale King
There are a lot of different ways to make mistakes when writing copy. Here are the 3 mistakes I see rookie copywriters making most:

1. It's not about YOU, it's about THEM! Generally speaking, people are mostly interested in just one thing: themselves. They really could care less about how things are going in your life, and with your business, or how your product is the greatest thing to come along since sliced bread. Unless you can effectively demonstrate to them how those things will effect their life, their business or their health...then all you've really done you've is wasted your time and theirs.

When writing copy, forget about YOU. Write about THEM. ALWAYS address their needs and solve their problems first.

2. You've got to make it personal. When writing copy, write as if you're talking to your best friend sitting across the table from you. Forget about trying to impress, by using fancy ten dollar words that no one understands, including you. Think about it. The average person doesn't talk that way. And you wouldn't want anyone talking to you that way. So why would you want to talk that way to someone else when writing copy?

3. You've got to ask for the sale. You've just written a copywriting masterpiece. You're salesletter contains all of the classic elements of AIDA.

You've compelled your prospect to read your message from beginning to end.

And then you blow all of that hard work, by not asking for the sale.

The whole point of marketing is to get people to buy whatever it is you're selling. Believe it or not, people are actually aware they're being sold to the moment they start reading a salesletter or ad, and readily accept this fact as a normal part of everyday life. They expect you to ask them to buy something. So don't disappoint them.
