Judges recognize Messina Hof as best winery in Texas; wines win People's Choice awards at San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wine Competition.
BRYAN, TX - Messina Hof Winery & Resort, the fastest-growing award winning winery in Texas, left the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wine Competition with one of its most prestigious awards to date. A highly experienced and talented panel of wine critics recognized Messina Hof as "Best of Herd" Winery, or best Texas winery, and two Messina Hof wines won People's Choice awards.
"We are proud to be recognized as Texas' best winery based on our long history and performance as a winery," said Paul Bonarrigo, wine-maker and co-founder of Messina Hof Winery & Resort. "We competed with the best Texas wineries for this honor and are overjoyed that Messina Hof was chosen by this sophisticated panel of critics."
The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo Wine Competition included two segments: a competition judged by wine critics and a People's Choice competition. In addition to being declared "Best of Herd" by wine critics, two Messina Hof wines were recognized by the people. Messina Hof Chenin Blanc was declared "Grand Champion White" and won a People's Choice Gold Medal, and Messina Hof Pinot Noir Barrel Reserve won a People's Choice Gold Medal.
Award winning wines will be showcased throughout the 2010 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo February 4 - February 21, 2010, and will be celebrated during a tasting and food pairing at the 33rd Annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo's Go Western Gala on Saturday, January 16, 2010. To mark the rodeo's first-ever wine competition, the theme for this year's gala is "Wine & Rodeo."
Messina Hof wines, amongst other top award winners, will be recognized and sold via live auction in the Champion Wine Auction during the "Wine & Rodeo" Gala. Proceeds from the auction benefit the San Antonio Livestock Exposition Scholarship Fund, with a portion of the funds raised designated toward Viticulture scholarships for Texas youths attending colleges and universities in Texas.
