Indian youth and bikes

Indian young people have become a big market for the business groups. Companies operating in various industries are exploiting the youth's interest in fashion, Bollywood, music and bikes.

India is already the world's second most populated country. It adds a population size of Australia every year. Due to the growing population, India has a great number of young people. They have turned into a big market for businesses. After the economic liberalization initiatives were taken by the Indian government, India became a great business destination for multi-national companies. All kinds of companies came to India to do business. Besides the cheap labor costs in India, what attracted foreign companies is its huge domestic market. In fact, Indian middle class forms a great market for consumer goods. Growing purchasing capacity of the class means that they are also going to buy more, even expensive products like cars, etc. As seen in last some days, lots of auto companies are doing great business in India. Even luxury car makers are seeing their business grow here.

Earlier Indian market was full of 100cc motorcycles. But growing purchasing power meant that bike makers are coming up with high-end two-wheelers for the market. Though even today, 100cc bikes form the chunk of annual sales in the two-wheeler industry, many bike makers are coming up with super bikes Kawasaki Ninza. Even the world famous bike maker Harley Davidson is coming to India in the year 2010.

Bikes have this image of a cool machine offering thrill and excitement in the youth's mind. Some Bollywood films also promote this image by showing protagonists performing cool looking stunts with bikes. One such film titled Dhoom made riding fast bikes on the roads seem cool thing to do. It is another story that Indian roads are not made for riding fast bikes, and India is a country with the dubious distinction of having the most number of road deaths in a year.
