Regional Chavinism has its heads high

Sadaket Ali Malik
The mob by definition is meant when there is a rising of tension and it comes together to commit an act of violent protest is not a new concept in democratic republic like ours. The concept by and large generated by political gooms, religious and fundamentalist forces for their petty interests and vote bank politics. The political frenzy exploiting the common man has instigated the propaganda of divisive nature right from independence of the country.

Is ongoing agitation for the restoration of 800 canals of forest land to shri Amaranth shrine Board (SASB) a part of such emotional trauma by the religious fundamentalists ? Of late, the political parties like BJP, Congress, PDP and NC has clarified their positions to the issue do not knowing that the present agitation is of masses having no political mileage. The popular movement for the restoration of land can be compared with the popular movements of Indian freedom struggle if one should deny that it is politically free from communal and political frenzy. No doubt the people from all the sections and religions has expressed their solidarity for the genuine demand. All the political parties for their political mileage has had issued the provocative statements to flare up the fire in Jammu as well as in Srinager and has exploited the agitation enforced by the ordinary and patriotic masses of Jammu. Isn´t it the secular and traditional brotherhood that people of all walks is in the mess ? these are only the political and communal forces who has tried to outburst the life long communal amity by making contradictory declarations.

However, considerable damage has been done by the agitator in both regions and continue to be done besides the intervention of centre, The social and secular fabric has been tried to disrupt, Division on the regional bases is being perpetuated by the communal forces to add a fire on the present crisis. The issue to handover the land to shri Amaranth shrine Board (SASB) raised by the common man in Jammu by sacrifices is highly commendable and nationalistic but at the same time the communal propaganda and fissiparous tendencies being devised by the BJP VHP RSS in Jammu and NC, PDP and separatist parties including Hurriyat Conference in Kashmir ought to be strongly condemned.

Ironically, the political leadership in both the regions started their political odyssey with a divisive agenda has further consolidated its base under the pretest of religious issue. The congress and BJP in Jammu has put an eye to grab Hindu vote bank and PDP and NC through their false propaganda has encouraged the regional chauvinism to woo the voters in the valley. This has led to the third front of separatists like All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) to reaffirm their stand against Indian occupation having excessive desire for revenge which the common man in the agitation doesn´t know. Increasingly the agitation has not just invoked an anger and anxiety but the hatred for these so called democrats responsible for mocary trying to expolite and real nationalist and patriotic masses of the state. Peace and secularism requires all of us to understand weather these political forces are responsible for this inhuman acts ? the answer is yes from all the people. The common masses are having a capability to understand the policies of the vague state leadership that is why the present movement is of the people and is credited to them rather then to the non secular and uncivilized politicians of the state. Is this a secularism which led to the erosion of values enshrined by our constitution? Are these values being imbibed among the current posterity ? how will be the fate of the generations to come as a responsible citizens and statesmen ? The secular and human values having democratic character need to be imbibed among the politicians of the state so as to ensure cohesive democratic and humanistic society.

Interestingly , Shri Amarnathji Yatra Sangharsh Samithi´s (SAYSS) stand on the issue is firm so far, beside several procedures and proposal by the central teams. Open invitation by the governor. The trend is dangerous because it shows that the state is failing miserably to ensure law and order. The life of a common man has been paralyzed, the grim situation has led to the tattering educational affairs of our children, The threat has been posed to the daily bread earners and above all the general masses. The children and women has come to road to express their enthusiasm and sympathy towards the shrine board as a religious duty. And the Government has failed to come up with a concrete proposal.

Of late what would be the remedy in a real sense ? who shall treat the patient ? and what should be the procedure to stem the rot ? are the queries need to be answered by the people in governance. What are the short term solutions to solve the immediate land controversy and long term solutions to avoid the regional chauvinism from the state? Intellectuals, educationists, political analysts and common man speak differently to overcome the crisis in their full page articles.

Be it the suggestion made by a prominent social activist R P Saraf a local former MP that there SASB should be re constituted and local members be inducted besides the long term remedy i.e. trilateral resolution of the Kashmir problem. At the same time Prof. Rekha choudhary of Jammu University speaks of connecting regional political constituencies of Jammu with Kashmir, she wish to remove regional chauvinism through connection of regions. On the other hand Dr. Farooq Abdullah Chief Patron of National Conference exhort that "Land be made available to the shrine board for two month of pilgrimage in spite of original order.

It is worth that the arrangement of land for two months will not give ownership rights to SASB and may not be accepted to the people whose sentiments are fixed with SASB. The suggestions of intellectuals, opinion makers politicians and educations is upto the administration and centre either to accept or reject, this hull is to be decided by the people in governance. There is need of state level deliberations of all the people activists to speak of the issue and aftermath the amicable solution to the problem.
