Did America And Its Allies Underestimate The Iraqi Insurgents?

Judy Ramsook
When Iraqi soldiers surrendered to American troops and their allies during the Gulf War, Saddam Hussein must have been devastated. Any leader of any country would have been, not to mention also being embarrassed. For just like America’s commander-in-chief has faith that his troops will not surrender to the enemy in a given situation, so does any other leader, invasion or no invasion of another country.

It seemed so easy. The video clip of that image can be difficult to erase from one’s memory. There were the Iraqi soldiers, all standing in single file, weaponless all looking indeed tired and as if they were no match for the American troops to whom they surrendered.

Then again which other country has the finances and facilities to train and place high tech weapons in the hands of its soldiers such as America or its first world country allies?

Fast forward to the year 2003, although American troops went into Iraq thinking getting that country to fall to its knees in yet another surrender, did they, the American troops and its allies also underestimate the Iraqi insurgents?

Looking back now at the many casualties and deaths that both nations and America’s allies have suffered, it seems so. For the world has always had rebels.

Those are the ones who stay and fight for their country when everyone else has given up the will to battle the enemy. As the death count continues to mount on both sides, the lives of innocent Iraqis included, one might also wonder when is this so called walk in the park invasion and war in Iraq going to end?

With America making as much use of its troops as possible and Iraqi insurgents not willing to lay down and surrender just yet, the question must have already crossed the minds of many.

It just goes to show no strong country should ever underestimate anything when considering going to war with another nation, no matter how much of a third world nation that country may seem to be.

For as long as there are rebels in the world, people will fight for their country, just like America is always willing to fight for its country, for the citizens of that country one has invaded are people too.

Saddam Hussein was a tyrannical dictator, granted, and although some claim that this war with Iraq is a war against terrorism, how can that be if were no Iraqi terrorists aboard any of those 9/11 planes?
