Dr. Seuss' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! The Musical, the critically acclaimed, record-breaking Broadway production, begins performances this Tuesday, November 10 at the Pantages Theatre. The show is celebrating its Los Angeles premiere with a limited holiday engagement through January 3, 2010. These dates include seven lower priced previews. Leading the company for this Los Angeles premiere is five-time Emmy® Winner John Larroquette as "Old Max" and Nickelodeon star Stefán Karl as "The Grinch".

John Larroquette is probably best known for his portrayal of Dan Fielding on the long running NBC sitcom, Night Court. Larroquette won four consecutive Emmys for that role. He won a fifth Emmy for his work on David E. Kelly's drama The Practice. He also starred on NBC for four seasons in the critically acclaimed The John Larroquette Show, which was nominated for four Emmys including Best Actor. His numerous television credits include Boston Legal, The West Wing, Law & Order, House, Chuck and many others. Films include Stripes, Richie Rich, Altered States, Second Sight, Choose Me, Madhouse and Blind Date. His stage work began in the mid 1970's in Los Angeles, and he has been seen in Enter Laughing, Long Day's Journey Into Night, Endgame, Neil Simon's Oscar and Felix at the Geffen Playhouse, The Aristocrats at the Mark Taper Forum, and his personal favorite, Happy Jack, a two character play in which he co-starred with his wife, Elizabeth. He and Elizabeth have been married for 35 years, and they have three children.
Stefán Karl is best known for his role as the villain "Robbie Rotten" in Nickelodeon's TV series Lazy Town. Currently shown in more then 120 countries, Lazy Town won the prestigious BAFTA award for the episode, "Robbie's Greatest Misses," in 2007. Stefan's theatre work in the past includes: The National Theatre of Iceland: Cyrano de Bergerac (Cyrano), Singing in the Rain (Cosmo Brown), Stones in His Pockets (Jake Quinn), Lazy Town (Robbie Rotten), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Puck), Noises Off (Lloyd). The Reykjavik City Theatre: Little Shop of Horrors (The Dentist). Stefan plays the lead in the film Polite People which is coming out in 2010. He lives in Los Angeles, is happily married and has four little "Whos."
Young Max will be played by James Royce Edwards, who has performed on Broadway in Hairspray, as well as national tours of Mamma Mia!, and All Shook Up, and off-Broadway in Altar Boyz. The role of Cindy Lou Who will be alternated between two young actresses: Kayley Stallings and Issadora Ava Tulalian.
Other cast members include Melinda Gilb as Mama Who, Danny Gurwin as Papa Who, Rosemary Loar as Grandma Who, and Stuart Zagnit as Grandpa Who. Adult ensemble members include Eric Anthony, Heather Barr, Alex Chester, Janet Dickinson, Antoinette DiPietropolo, Jennie Ford, Dennis Kenney, Shanon Mari Mills, Candice Nicole, Josephine Rose Roberts, Joe Souza, and Pearl Sun. Child ensemble members include Michael William Arnold, Isabella Briscoe, Maddie Levy, Molly Livingston, Quinton Lopez, Terren Mueller, Lindsay Ryan, Molly Ryan, Gracie Stover, and Terrance Thomas.

The Musical features the hit songs "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" and "Welcome Christmas" from the original animated series. Max the Dog narrates as the mean and scheming Grinch, whose heart is "two sizes too small", decides to steal Christmas away from Holiday loving Whos. Magnificent sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss' original illustrations help transport audiences to the whimsical world of Whoville, while the Music and Book of Mel Marvin and Timothy Mason breathe new life into this timeless story of the true meaning of Christmas.
Dr. Seuss' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! The Musical is based on the original book written by Dr. Seuss and is conceived and supervised by three-time Tony Award® winner, Jack O' Brien. It is directed by Matt August and choreographed by Bob Richard with original choreography by John DeLuca. Book and lyrics are by Timothy Mason with music by Mel Marvin and additional music and lyrics by Albert Hague and Dr. Seuss. The associate producer is Audrey Geisel. The production features scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Robert Morgan, lighting design by Pat Collins, and orchestrations by Michael Starobin. Sound design is by Acme Sound Partners.
O'Brien premiered the show at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego 11 years ago, and it became a popular annual tradition for the celebrated regional theatre. GRINCH opened on Broadway at the Hilton Theatre in 2006, and it returned to Broadway in 2007 at the St. James Theatre. In 2008, the show premiered in Boston and Baltimore, and this holiday season, Los Angeles will see the West Coast Premiere of the Broadway production of the classic Dr. Seuss story of joy and redemption.
