Discover More Than Imagined In The Florida Keys
Head to Tranquility Bay Beach House Resort in Marathon, Florida, and relax on the private beach, soak up the sun at the resort-style heated lagoon pool with beach entry, or gather with family and friends at the tiki bar for a sunset toast; it is all possible at Tranquility Bay.
Another of our favorite places to stay is the Pines & Palms Resort in Islamorada, Florida, located at Mile Marker 80.4. The mile markers you'll spot make it easy to find what you're looking for on your trip. The people you meet are also laid back, and always ready to lend a hand, as is the case at the Pines & Palms Resort. If you need directions to a great dining spot, just ask. Want to know where you can find the best fishing spot, they can help you with that too!
While in Islamorada visit a Stacie L. Krupa, who embraces the spirit of the Keys. Like a photographer, Stacie uses various mediums to capture the nature beauty around her in Islamorada, a small island community about 90 miles south of Miami in the Florida Keys. She is a amazing artist and you're certain to enjoy a visit to her gallery.
Stacie is one of the Character of the Keys, of which we featured several in USA Travel Magazine's Fall Edition. These include Harriet Stokes, Irving R. Eyster, Laura Quinn at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, Mandy Rodriguez and his staff at Dolphin Research Center, Richie Moretti, and his staff at the Turtle Hospital in Marathon, and Nancy Forrester, who preserve nature and wildlife in her Secret Garden. These Characters are those who tend and care for the wildlife as well as share and preserve the history of the Keys.
When it comes to diversity and a laid back atmosphere there are few places that compare to Key West. This is one destination where you come as you are and you'll fit right in. Key West is also home to many talented performers, including the Drag queen, Sushi, the leader of a troupe of world-famous drag performers who take the stage nightly at the 801 Bourbon Bar. If you've never seen a show then this is the place to do it!
When it comes to music one of the bands that bring the Keys to life is Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band. Every time we listen to one of their CD's we feel like were back in the Keys, which is a good thing when it's only 40 degrees outside. Howard and his band are also charming Characters Of The Keys, and featured in USA Travel Magazine's Holiday Guide. Be sure to check their web site for the current schedule of performances. If you see Howard, and the band, raise your glass in a toast to Howard and his lovely wife Cyndy, who celebrated their wedding with fans and loved ones recently in the Keys!
