Scientists believe that the best anti aging diet boils down to calorie restriction, intermittent fasting, and resveratrol. They believe that what you eat, how frequently you eat, and how much you eat may have an effect on the quality and years of life that you will have.

Based on research conducted in animals, calorie restriction has an impressive effect on disease and markers of aging. This implies a diet that is comprised by generally 25 to 40 percent fewer calories than normal, but includes all the necessary nutrients. Studying calorie restriction may offer new insights into the aging process and biological mechanisms that could influence healthy aging. This research may also provide clues about how to prevent or delay diseases that become more prevalent with age.


Resveratrol, which is found naturally in very small amounts in grapes and nuts, has been found out to mimic the benefits of calorie restriction. In a study conducted on two groups of overweight mice on a high fat diet, one of which received high doses of resveratrol, it was found out that those who were given resveratrol were healthier and lived longer than those who weren´t. In a follow-up study, it was found that, when started at middle age, resveratrol slowed age-related health problems in mice on a standard diet but did not increase longevity.

Aside from calorie restriction, scientists are also studying the effect of intermittent fasting or reduced meal frequency on human health and longevity. But even as the search for answers continues, we cannot deny the value of a healthy, balanced diet and physical activity to help delay or prevent age-related health problems.
