(Salem, New Jersey, November 1, 2009) Picture Kitchen is the studio of Kim Sponaugle. She believes great illustration, like great home cooking, have something in common - they both get to the heart! The right ingredients are necessary to create a children's book illustration that can touch the heart, teach, and communicate what the author wants to express. The most effective children's book illustrations are those that can grab a hold of your heart and mind. A good use of color, design and well rendered characters are part of the recipe for a great book.

Born and raised a South Jersey girl, Kim Sponaugle is a graduate of The Art Institute of Philadelphia with a degree in Visual Communications. Upon graduation, she was hired as an associate curriculum designer for Cook Publications in Elgin, IL. It was while she was designing children's products and hiring artists that she discovered that she really wanted to be at the drawing board. Kim has also taught art for grades K-8th grade.

Graphic designer, mural artist, t-shirt designer, along with working as a children's cartoon portrait artist are just a few of the hats Kim has worn. In 2001, she illustrated her first two picture books entitled, The Adventures of Beatrice - Beatrice Loses Her Doll, and New Clothes with long time friend and author Pam Halter. At the present, Kim has illustrated over 20 children's books and has had the experience of working with some wonderful publishers and authors. Kim is also the art consultant for Whim Publishing, Orange County, CA.

Kim Sponaugle has worked with these publishers: Athse Publishing , Christian Focus Publications, Concordia Publishing House, Dogear Publishing, Dragonfly Publishing, Fruitbearer Publishing, Guardian Angel Publishing, Halo Publishing, Images Press, Ithaca Press, Keene Publishing, Kidzblitz Ministries, Llumina Press, Stories for Children Magazine, The Old School House Magazine, and last but not least, Whim Publishing, publishers of Randy Kazandy, Where Are Your Glasses?

Kim has a beautiful style all her own. Randy Kazandy, Where Are Your Glasses? by Rhonda Fischer and illustrated by Kim was awarded The Book of Excellence by over 100 educators, teachers and parents for 2009 in Creative Child's Magazine. It was honored into the Children's Arts & Illustrations Museum in St. Louis Missouri, and is now the top 10 children's book for the fall through the online magazine sheknows.com.

Kim's passion for art is depicted through her drawings capturing detail and blending colors that excite a child's imagination. Her love in each illustration transcends almost to another realm. That is a gift Kim has in her work.
