WE CAN'T SEEM TO FIND GOOD HELP ANYMORE
When I remind them that they should be doing those things that are in there job description instead of being on the computer in My Space or on a website looking for another job, they get upset and complain to the office manager that Domingo is condescending. That Domingo is not polite enough on the manner that he approaches them, that Domingo gets angry with them and they innocently don’t know why. (By the way the angry description is just their way to make me the bad guy...just asking or letting them know in a regular tone voice is anger to them because I interruped their focus on the computer.)
It seems that our young generation has not been taught essentials needed to be a good worker. It is sad but true; many young people have not been trained at home by parents on what it takes to do a good job. The schools surely don't train them. What they have learned is that: you must do the least you can to get by and punch out and go home when the shift is over. How sad! Of course I am not speaking of all young people. I am sure there are many responsible and honest enough to know that they do need to work when they are getting paid instead of just getting by and wasting time or doing their own happy feeling stuff like being on the computer during Company time doing their own thing.
What can be done? As a worker in the office we must turn away when we see this happening. Why do I say this? Because the flood of complaints from this young workers make you sound like the bad guy. They complain to the office manager who is the one responsible for them, that they are being harassed. They don’t feel it is a friendly working environment, they pout and complain that they will quit if it keeps going on. The bad guy becomes the person that requests them to do their job. The bad guy is the one that the office manager complains to the owner of the Company to tell him or her that the bad guy is interfering with the young workers. The bad guy is the angry and condescending one that should not take the time to give directions or make requests of the young worker.
So what have I learned from my experience with working with this young generation? First, don’t worry about it; the Company will still survive even though they are wasting their money with this type of employees that will soon quit anyways. Second, look the other way, because if you don’t, you become the bad person for noticing the faults of the young workers. Third, the office manager is so tired of hiring new workers that they feel that no one should bother these workers since they don’t get paid much and we should appreciate them more for not doing their work. (They only get $10.00 an hour). Fourth, don’t care so much for your Company to take the time to correct the problems, remember it is not your problem, even though directly they cause problems for forgetting their duties.
How sad! Is this how America will prosper and grow? How sad, that others look at the person that is trying to educate correct the problems as the culprit. Please email me some of your experiences and let me know how wrong I am. I know that in my Company I am wrong for trying to do right. So from now on...I must just look the other way and laugh, otherwise they will think I am angry and condescending.
Keep Smiling!
Domingo Ivan
