DICK CHENEY: HE WAS WRONG THEN AND HE IS WRONG NOW. BUT WE AMERICANS HAVE FINALLY LEARNED
…Former VP, Richard B. Cheney. "A real American "loser".
President Barack Obama told National Public Radio (NPR) recently that former Vice President Dick Cheney was "wrong" in his latest tough critique of the new administration's policy on the detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
He also said; "I think there was a fact-check run on his [Cheney´s] speech that didn't get a very good grade."
NPR says that Obama said, "On whether former Vice President Dick Cheney´s comments complicate the Obama administration´s efforts to create a new path forward on Guantanamo: Well, he also happens to be wrong. Right? Does it make it more complicated? No, because I think these are complicated issues."
The reality is that at least the former Vice President is being consistent. He has been wrong many times before, and he just continues to be wrong.
Richard Bruce Cheney, the former Vice President has today seriously earned the position of having very little credibility. He has often made predictions that turned out to be blatantly untrue, and is even lampooned by his opponents because of him being incorrect on almost a "serial basis".
Let´s take a look at some of the previous times that the former VP has put his foot firmly into his mouth:
Cheney on becoming the Vice President:
I have my own personal area of Cheney´s mistakes, such as when Dick Cheney was the head of Candidate-Bush's vice-presidential search committee. In this function, Cheney was supposed to find the "best candidate for Vice President". Dick Cheney then just chose himself to be the Vice Presidential candidate. That was the first time Mr. Cheney really screwed up.
Cheney on Iraq:
1. Cheney wrongly predicted that "My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators."
2. The vice president also incorrectly said that "Iraqi oil will pay totally for the war."
3. Another VP Cheney blunder: "Saddam Hussein has been shown to have weapons of mass destruction (WMD´s)."
4. Cheney absolutely swore that; "We believe he [Saddam] has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons."
5. The VP also blatantly lied when he said; "Saddam attempted to acquire yellow cake uranium from Nigeria."
6. In 2005, Cheney mistakenly said of the insurgency in Iraq, "I think they're in the last throes [of the war].
7. VP Cheney also said the information regarding Saddam´s Iraq being involved with Osama Bin Laden's, al Qaeda came from a "highly reliable source". That source it turns out was the insurgent, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM), the then alleged 9/11 mastermind, and his fellow conspirator Ramzi Binalshibh. KSM himself, was waterboarded, reportedly hung for hours from his wrists, beaten, and subjected to other agonies for weeks. President Bush said he (KSM) had provided, "many details of other plots to kill innocent Americans." However, today, according to a former senior CIA official, who reads all of the interrogation reports on KSM, "90% of it was total f---ing bull---t." A former Pentagon analyst adds: "KSM produced no actionable intelligence. He was trying to tell us how stupid we were."
In KSM´s case, the lead that led to capturing him came from an informant motivated by a $25 million reward.
President Barack Obama on Dick Cheney:
"Now, keep in mind, this is the same guy that said we'd be greeted as liberators in Iraq, the same guy that said we're in the last throes [of the war in Iraq]. I'm sure he also forecast sun today." (There was a drizzle of rain at the rally the President was attending)
And I won´t even go into how Vice President Dick Cheney and his Chief of Staff, Scooter Libby, illegally "outed" a covert CIA agent because her husband had written an op-ed article in the New York Times that disagreed with President Bush about Saddam seeking nuclear materials from Nigeria.
As I said, Cheney was wrong before, and he is wrong for America now. The real issue is not that he was just "wrong", but he was wrong in areas that caused his nation to go to war and to invade a nation that was not a direct threat to the United States.
His wrong decisions caused thousands of Iraqi´s and American troops to die.
Now that's the real truth.
