Finding Neverland- Special Effects- Interview
Bell: For what company do you work and how long have you worked for them?
Abelanet: I work for BUF Company (French company) since 1997, first as a 3D graphist and now as a supervisor.
Bell: What was your special effects contribution for "Finding Neverland?"
Abelanet: We worked on 3 main sequences: The pirate boat, the ranch, and the circus. We came onto this project with a different approach. For example, rather than doing photorealistic water (for the pirate boat seq.) we proposed to Marc Forster (the director) something more unusual, like those wood-painted waves. We believed it would be more relevant with the story of this man (J. Barrie) trying to bring magic to ordinary objects.
Bell: Any memorable moments?
Abelanet: The fact that we were really involved in the creation part, and we had a lot to bring, not just technical performance.
Bell: How long have you been involved in special effects?
Abelanet: I worked before for a little company in the south of France: 9 years aprox.
Bell: For what other movies have you contributed your knowledge of special effects?
Abelanet: I work mainly on commercials and music videos, but I was also supervisor on "3 burials of Melquiades Estrada" and did some work on Oliver Stone's "Alexander."
Bell: What type of equipment/supplies do you utilize for special effects?
Abelanet: It's only digital effect, so we work on computer, Linux based systems, and we developed our own softwares (3D software, 2D compositing ...)
