Prominent Democratic Party leader Eric Bauman supports Doten´s bid to become the state´s youngest elected Democratic National Committee member. Two seats – one female and one male – are open in the California delegation to the DNC. For the male seat, Bauman has also announced his endorsement of long-time Democratic Party activist and labor candidate Laurence Zakson.

LOS ANGELES - The Becca Doten for Democratic National Committee (DNC) Member campaign has announced the support of California Democratic Party Vice-Chair and Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Eric Bauman. Bauman is among more than 100 prominent Democrats, including more than 90 California Democratic Party Executive Board voters, to declare their support for Doten. A full list of supporters is available on Doten´s campaign website at DotenforDNC.com.

"I have had the opportunity to work with Becca for several years now, and I have watched her grow into the kind of leader that our Party´s future depends on," said Bauman. "Becca combines tireless dedication and passion for progressive causes with rational and thoughtful foresight - a perfect set of skills for representing California on the Democratic National Committee."

"I am honored that Eric has lent his support to my campaign," said Doten. "I have tremendous respect for all that he has accomplished as a leader in both the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, as well as the California Democratic Party."

Doten first got involved in politics in 2003, inspired and engaged by Governor Howard Dean´s campaign for President. Since then, she has given hundreds of hours of volunteer time to local, state and national campaigns. In 2006 she was named a "Volunteer of the Year" by the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley (DP/SFV). For two years, she served as President of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats, where she created a strong legislative advocacy program and started a "Women in Politics" speaker series. As Political Director of the California Young Democrats, Doten worked with clubs from across the state to support legislation that would help young people in California and coordinated targeted campaign "invasions" of Young Democrat volunteers into red areas.

In addition to working with the Young Democrats, Doten has been a delegate to the California Democratic Party for each of the past five years, and currently serves as the elected Executive Board member for Assembly District 46. She is also a Co-Chair of the CDP Legislative Action & Equal Opportunity Committee. Professionally, she works as the Communications Director to an elected official.

For the campaign for the male seat, Vice-Chair Eric Bauman has endorsed Laurence Zakson, a union-side labor lawyer who has also been endorsed by Party leaders, including State Controller John Chiang; State Senator Fran Pavley; Assembly Members John A. Perez, Paul Krekorian, Julia Brownley, and Bob Blumenfield; DNC members Steven K. Alari, Mary Ellen Early, Hon. Eric Garcetti, Patricia Hobbs, Robert "Big Red" Rankin, Garry S. Shay, and Roz Wyman. He is also endorsed by former State Senator Shelia Keuhl.

Zakson is a Co-Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party´s Rules & Legal Committee and a member of the California Democratic Party´s Executive Board and Rules Committee. A progressive Democrat, Zakson is the former President of the West Hollywood Democratic Club and former Vice-President of the Stonewall Democratic Club. He was an Al Gore delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention.
