Is Fasting Really Good For Your Fat Loss?

Most of the fat loss aspirants think that fasting is a good tool for burning extra fat. So, some remain fasting without taking solid food for some hours. Some opt fasting even for days. They do all these activities thinking that it will aid in fat loss. But instead, fasting damages your fat loss campaign.

According to the dieticians and nutrition consultants, fasting is never beneficial for fat loss. In fact, long gaps in meals will reduce the basal metabolic rate and further contribute to weight gain.

On the other side, the body depends upon energy reserves to maintain the essential functions. During fasting, it primarily uses glycogen to feed the brain and other cells. When this supply is diminished, protein stores are utilized, thereby causing the breakdown of muscles and other tissues.

This will eventually lead to risk factors like weakness, fatigue, depression and hair fall. In fact, one may also suffer from severe side affects like dehydration, hyper acidity, weak vision, muscular pains, reduced bone mineral mass, anemia etc. It leads to various health problems like heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, etc.

One should note that fasting if done once in three months for a day that too under the supervision of dietician is beneficiary to some extent. This is purely based on detoxification diet prescribed by the nutritionist. But remember that if you are deprived from the regular balanced low fat diet, then no doubt both your body and mind are malnourished.


Fasting regularly does more harm to your body than you think. Everyone would agree that rapid weight loss does occur when you do fasting. But the rate of fat loss of the body is decreased considerably along with a decrease in metabolic rate. Therefore, in the 90% of fasting weight loss cases, the body soon attains your pre-fasting weight as soon as you stop fasting.

Then you may ask me why body loses its weight during fasting? This temporary weight loss is purely associated with water loss during the fasting stage. As the body weight purely depends upon the water intake, it stays in lower levels during fasting. Upon prolonged periods of fasting or even regular fasting will decrease your body´s immunity levels.

If you really want to burn your fat, then you should follow and stick to Fat Loss Diet recommended by dietician.
